What I like the most about Earn and Vans relationship is they both screw up and have very selfish moments but they care about each other and the well being of Lottie. I’m glad Van gave him an ultimatum. She was growing tired of chasing him and seeing other dudes so she finally gave him the opportunity to be committed Earn just dumb and selfish sometimes

The entire series is excellent but how the focus shifts in season two is brilliant. Season one we are definitely on Earn's side. We see how he is treated and sees the world. But season two the story progresses but the biggest change is that we see how the world, his friends and family specifically, see Earn. This episode is perfect example of that. Vanessa wants a commitment, one way or another. The limbo is what she doesn't want. Earn is comfortable being in that limbo and struggling for all the wrong reasons. He won't commit to being Vanessa's partner, he can't be the manager Paper Boi really needs. He proves himself to his cousin Alfred at the end of the season and proves himself, finally, to Vanessa at the end of the series. Excellent TV.

These are they’re of scenes that imitate life. The amount of depression and settling between Van and Earn is extremely toxic. They are so down that even their up moments are calculated. I feel like they’re Love is lazy but that’s what happens when we have kids as teens or early twenties. I look around at some of my friends irl and their relationships have a similar narrative. I adore them for hanging in there but I’m good where I’m at till I figure something out.

Van: “what do you want?” Earn: “I don’t know.” I had this conversation a million times in my player days. It always sucked. I hated hurting girls. But it still sucked having to part ways with a girl you really liked, But didn’t quite like enough to commit.

Problems in a relationship arise when both parties can't be honest with each other, can't trust one another, and can't sacrifice for the benefit of the other party. Modern relationship is two immature adults pretending to love each other, but falls apart immediately when the test comes up.

Damnit Earn just be straight and honest. She's beautiful, smart, and cares for you and your daughter. Just say that you want to be in a committed relationship as well, but that you also want to see how this rap music business adventure ends up because it might pay off for Lottie and the future. You're a college drop out, and minimum wage isn't enough to support the family, and so this rap thing might be the lottery ticket out of miserable poverty. See? Simple Earn. But I guess audience has to also remember that Earn is still in his 20s. He's still a stupid kid somewhat, even though technically he's an adult. He doesn't have the wisdom yet to use the right words.

Van's beef is how "lazy" Earn is in the relationship in a sense. She seeems to want a more commited relationship with Earn, but this episode shows Earn doesn't want to commit as much as Van does, I.E. by showing how he kinda brushes everything off the entire episode because it wasn't how he did things. At the same time, I do see Earn's point of view of wanting to stay in an "easy" relationship. He even says "This arrangement works for me." The entire episode Earn was out of his comfort zone, and if he was commited, he would most likely do stuff like this more often than not, and some guys don't want to go through that.

They are not forced to deal with each other in the same way they do in this episode and the episode where they go to the party. Or the episode they went to the strip club as a "date". They did that stuff because they genuinely cared about each other. Van lets Earn stay over when he's broke and has nothing to offer because she genuinely cares for him. They both love each other but Van wants to Earn to be more committed to their on and off "situation" than he wants to

Exactly. Remove the child from the equation and really see how much you're committed to that person. Kids have so many people in this world tethered to folks they don't like or even want to be around if they were really given the choice.

This is why your pull out game has to be A1, or you'll be stuck dealing with a chick you really don't wanna be with anymore and it's just miserable for the both of you.

This scene, and season 2 as a whole, cemented the fact that Earn was the worst character on "Atlanta." He redeemed himself by the end, but man. He was insufferable during "Robbin' Season."

In this context he's calling it a trap because despite all the possible answers he can give, there if only one that won't get him into some shit (the one she's looking for) but even if he gives it she will know that he's lying which will probably get him into deeper shit
