I think he was smiling because he was hoping he wasn't dreaming. Because those three are his family. This ep portrayed Darius, as eccentric and free as he is, is alone. His actual family is gone and Alfred, Earn and Vanessa is his family now. And I don't think he wants to dream of a world without them. Such a beautiful send-off.

That scene with Darius in the house visiting his brother really got me. The dialogue was realistic and simple, the acting warm, comfortable and uncomfortable. Filmed beautifully, when it went from Darius asking his brother, to silence. Lakieth killed it, was a really beautiful scene.

The ending was the equivalent to the top still spinning at the end of Inception I saw this episode alluding to Darius dying. There were just a lot of signs alluding to death, the end, or a conclusion. To the show, yes, but maybe even to a life? I feel it's definitely worth a rewatch. I peeped a few different signs in the episode. One of them being homegirl he gets in the car with. Her bag has the word "The End" all over it. When Darius wakes up from that "dream," he turned over in the tank...potentially drowning. But we won't know for sure...I'll miss this show

If anything maybe just this episode is a dream and the rest is real. Earn and Van are in LA and Al is on his farm so maybe Darius is alone in Atlanta and is forced to think about his real family that died (brother, mom and dad) now that his Atlanta family is gone.

I thought Darius knew he was still in the tank and that's why he smiled at the end. Like he saw "thick Judy" and knew he's still dreaming. Kinda bummed that it's over but at least they ended on a good note.

It’s definitely bitter sweet that the show came to an end! I love the creativity and the unexpectedness of each episode. The last episode of season 4 was clearly a mind trip as it would be coming from the mind of Darius.

As a person that does float therapy a lot. Don't get dreams like Darius. It help me focus more because I know what it feels like to block out the extra noise because of my time in the chamber. I recommend trying it at least once. Dimarcus was spitting facts.

The entire episode is a DREAM! he was watching a Popeyes commercial and judge Judy at the beginning... He shows up in A Pink Maserati...and just walks in and splows dude in the face...DREAM FIGHTING WE ALL HAVE ENCOUNTERED His life prior is about not being able to protect ppl he cared for, his mom, dad, bro, London (that's y she says it's all your fault, he's dealing with grief)... he was stepping in the nick of time to protect Al, Ern, and Van...HIS NEW FAMILY.... I felt Cree Summer was the representative of his mom (picking up med for her son, his brother, the same person he was getting meds for)...it was easier for him to see his mother in a different avatar than face the real pain of her presence, that's y he said I like you energy... also y he had to see her(his parents) in a picture at his brother's house... even his brother had to fade out... his heart as an empath is too big to handle the losses he has endured...

The entire show took place in his mind. Go back and rewatch from Season 1 Episode 1; it's really obvious now that you know what to look for. None of the characters were real.

No need to really argue the ending because the point is to have it up for interpretation. I think whatever you want to believe is what it is. I like bittersweet and more morbid endings, so I say Darius is still in the tank and uses it to remember people who are no longer around. His family passed, which is why he remembers his brother being sick, and his friends moved to LA or on a farm. It was interesting Earn saying, "We're really your friends." I took that as Darius knowing that people he loves aren't really leaving him, and he may be affirming himself. This is only my desired interpretation. If he is out of the dream then it is a funny ending with everyone together and having a last night together before two leave across the country. A great show, and love your reactions to it.

There is reason to believe Darious did die in the tank hence the flipping over in the tank which had never occurred before. He goes to the tank once a week (the show aired once a week), the guy said he’d been in there 35 minutes, 30 minute episodes once a week, the brain can last 5 minutes before brain damage.

Interpretation endings historically catch a lot of flak but when Atlanta does it it’s critically acclaimed. I adore this show and loved the ending but just saying. I’m a fan of those types of endings

I'm sad to see this show go but we still got a nice 4 seasons of a dope ass black show that we can always go back to. I think it could work either way as far as the last episode goes. An episode that had all 4 of them mostly together could've been a fitting finale, but I enjoy this being the last though. The show being known to be surreal - I like closing off with not being completely sure of what's real.
