The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Philadelphia District has started a major beach replenishment project for Absecon Island, NJ!
A $38.2 million contract has been awarded to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company to dredge and place 1.2 million cubic yards of sand onto the beaches of Atlantic City, Ventnor City, Margate, and Longport. 🌊🏖️
The project aims to combat coastal erosion and protect against storm damage by widening the beaches and repairing dunes, access paths, and sand fencing. Sand will be sourced from designated borrow areas in Absecon Inlet and offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.

✔️ Cost: $38.2 million
✔️ Sand Volume: 1.2 million cubic yards
✔️ Construction Start: November 2024 (Atlantic City) | December 2024 (Ventnor City)
✔️ Estimated Duration: 2-4 months (weather dependent)
This project is a joint effort between USACE, the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, and local municipalities. The Absecon Island beachfill project originally began in 2004 and continues to be maintained to ensure coastal protection.
