Great video to see what it's like today. I'm glad to see that they have kept the decor tasteful, true to its history, but clean. I remember that the old casino floor in the 80's wasn't all on the same floor. You had to go up escalators between different levels. Their slogan was, "Smaller, so friendlier."

Clarice in the snow at 15:48. I was patiently waiting for this video, thank you! Very nice and I love the Shining reference. Made me laugh LOL 😆 Definitely reminds me of that too. Everytime I see a hotel hallway I always think of those twins. I love that old 1920's Great Gatsby vibe The Claridge has. Great choice of music for this video too. I appreciated it. I also appreciated the deep sexy voice too LOL 😆 but all kidding aside I hope you feel better!

@@JoseGonzalez-gg6rs Parking at Bally's ranges from $10 - $25 depending upon when your parking. If your a guest of the hotel you can get a voucher at check in and give it to the person at the parking gate for 'free' parking (it's actually part of the resort fee). Bally's the Claridge, Wild Wild West and Caesars are all connected via passageways. All very close and you don't even have to step outside! I remember back in the 1990's my family and I would see shows at the Claridge. I vaguely remember that the showroom/theater was on an upper floor (maybe the 6th or 7th???). I always thought that the low ceilings in the casino area made the place feel claustrophobic. Hopping on escalators to get to the various casino levels was a pain in the neck. Ah.... the memories. Thanks.

@@NuYawk we were there for the air show. Dinner was just ok, eggplant parm was really oily and waitress didn’t point out there was a tip already on the bill, even though we were only a party of three. We were going to tip 20 percent …there was already a tip of 18 percent that would have been 38%. We were also aware of conversations about who was getting enough tables to serve among the wait staff. On a more positive note, you have an interesting channel and I learn a lot from it.

very interesting video! I don't think I've been there since maybe early 80s when a casino and just stopped in then. It does seem like it's all new just made to look old. impressed how clean it was a huge plus. looked like the bathroom was small rest ok. that long hike from garage to front desk then room was far but good exercise. the shining reference hysterical especially when those shining twins appeared on your way to the pool that looked nice. It's also good it's connected to Bally's so you can go to a casino without going outside. If it's a lot less than a good choice to stay and why it was sold out. To me cleanliness is most important and looked clean the room. The old vibe is kinda cool retro roaring 20s Gatsby style. and feel better!

You were very lucky to get a room during Super bowl even though it was the Claridge. I stayed there I believe twice when they had a casino. A magician named Jeff McBride Did shows there. I actually went to a after show party with him and some other folks and then I stayed there when Elton John was playing at the old Convention Hall. Me and my friend checked in and when we went to the room it belonged to some other guest, so we had to go back down and let them know and they had to get us another room. We just barely made the concert. I was never impressed by the Claridge.

Wow! That was some trip! I used to work at a Holiday Inn and we used to manually (about 1987) have to turn over a card when we checked someone into a room to let others at the front desk know the room was occupied. Sometimes we'd have customers distract us, we'd get an entire Flight crew or a big surge of people from the airport walk in; we'd have to manually put in the wake up calls. Customers would call about availability and room rate negotiations on the telephone. So occasionally we'd check someone into a room that was occupied. It was embarrassing for everyone; I really hated it. It was special that you got to see a magician; Claridge was built for the super rich back in the day. Hope Elton took away some of the blues of the room. Bad times can be the most memorable

I wish they had the casino back. The 24/7 flow of people and activity at this hotel back in the 90s was incredible. There were several great restaurants (Martino's, the Garden Cafe, the Twenties, Wok n Roll) and full service salons right off the pool. The place was electric back then. Maybe business was too good. Bally's took them over, closed the casino, then sold the property. THAT is how you eliminate competition.

I was wondering too if that was the same furniture from when Sinatra and Monroe stayed there or if was just new antique looking furniture. Good to know they had a good room rate for Superbowl weekend! I tried to book there once in advance for Halloween but they must have caught on and upped their rates too so I ended instead at a newly re-done room at the Chelsea which had recently become part of the Tropicana. Have you ever stayed at the Chelsea (tower) at the Trop?

Honestly, I'm not sure if I stayed at the Chelsea Tower, if I did it was years ago. I'm usually in the Havana Tower when staying at the Trop.

Sounds like an adventure; I sometimes see rooms at the Claridge at super reasonable prices online (I wonder; do we have to pay a resort fee there?) & it seems Jeff didn't see it as old & cheap (though to be fair, that was only one room). But for a night or two and maybe a throwback to another time, it sounds like it'd be worth it. I regret when Resorts Casino a few years back was trying to make it into a Roaring Twenty's casino, that I didn't take the time to go to the casino & see what they were doing. I sometimes wish Merv Griffin would be upstairs in a restaurant and say, "let me show you around." The Showboat, when it had a casino, had a players club that included a free lunch at a restaurant upstairs each day. My friend & I did the calculations and realized you would need to gamble $1 million dollars a year to be a part of the, I'll say "gold" players club that included your free lunch. That day we looked at the menu and the million dollar gamblers were getting stuffed peppers. It was great to be having a hamburger downstairs with the "I lost $200 today" crowd (not a fan of stuff peppers; well, wouldn't pay for it in a restaurant if they had other things on the menu, I'll say)

I'm surprised at the difference in price between The Claridge and the other hotels. Would you consider Atlantic City a "mini version" of LAS Vegas?
@dougronald5612 жыл бұрын
Not really. It has its own flavor. A.C. is more of a regional destination. It is a beach resort, and most of the hotel rooms have direct ocean views. Italian restaurants are much better in A.C. I'd say Vegas has more theming.
