After being raised out of Scapa Flow and repaired I assume the Royal Oak has been upgraded or as others have said the best she could hope for is to delay and injure the Bismarck, radar control and superior speed and protection mean the Royal Oak was out classed...

Indeed, Royal Oak would have stood a far better chance if she was with Prince of Wales than Hood did.

@@jyralnadreth4442 Hood was definitely an inferior ship to the Bismarck, but she wasn't completely outclassed by him. Her guns could have done some serious damage to the Bismarck, but she just couldn't seem to hit her with any of her salvos, and Bismarck hit her in what was pretty much the bullseye.

Used to live right next to the Royal Oak at Scapa. Could always see a layer of fuel oil leaking before they pumped it all out.

In a fight with the Bismarck the best the Royal Oak could hope for would be to buy time for some of the ships it was escorting to escape, and inflict enough damage that the Bismarck could be hunted and destroyed by other units of the Royal Navy.

The Royal Oak could not have kept up with the Bismarck and would have lost the manoeuvre fight before any shell was fired, she was old and wartime exigencies had ensured that she was neglected.. Having said that, we should keep in mind the fact that the Bismarck was only an upgraded WW1 Baden class design just like the Royal Oak was an upgraded WW1 ship, difference being one was brand new and the other was 20+yo. Bismarck gained a fearsome reputation for annihilating an elderly battlecruiser in exactly the way British BC's had been annihilated 35 years previous at Jutland. There really shouldn't be any surprise there! Bismarck would not have stood an earthly chance against any single Iowa class BB or any Yamato or even the new British Vanguard class.

@@antonrudenham3259 Your crazy. The vanguard had old WW 1 guns. The Bismarck had modern 15 inch Radar Controlled Guns. Also Bismarck had better armour than the Iowa Class.

@@wolfgangshrenk6032 Vanguard would have crushed her Bismarck was a one shot wonder and she had to break the rules for extra armour if the royal navy had ignored the restrictions like the nazis did then Bismarck would kept well away from the royal navy.dont forget a antique plane embarrassed her and made sure its crew got some slow pain dished out to it when she could not run away :)
