Wrong, The 11 inch guns of the Scharnhorsts had ridiculus range. Better than the 12 and 13.5 inch guns of ww1 and ww2.

@@hakon5473 while you aren’t wrong on the range thing the older us battleships we’re effective immune to the fire from the 11’ guns only the absolute oldest battleships, Arkansas, New York and Texas, would be truly vulnerable to those guns and the US only kept those ship in service because of the Washington naval treaty. Other hand only Arkansas would truly useless against Scharnhorst or her sister ship. The biggest thing we have to remember is scharnhorst and her sister were built as raiding battleships.

Scharnhorst hit HMS Glorious at 26,000 yards! Greater distance is also an advantage for Scharnhorst because plunging fire could penetrate the deck armor of most BBs easier than the belt.

@@javelin2811 At point blank range the deck armor would never be hit from above. At 15,000 or 20,000 yards a 11“ AP shell could probably penetrate the deck armor of, let‘s say, a Pennsylvania (1.5 - 3.0“).

No,Carolina had 305mm side armor inclined at 17', 16" armor on turret front and 178 on turret roof and 5.5" on deck. Scharnhornst 11" shell could NOT penetrate any of NC's main armor. Could shoot up superstructure that's all - No chance of Sch. sinking NC. On the other hand NC's 16 inch shells can penetrate all of Scharnhorst armor any day of the week.

Yeah right some war gamer never been on a ship much less a BB with 16 inch guns verses 11 inch. Radar directed gun fire verses optics again never happen. Ask those on the Japanese Battle cruiser what the same class can do 77 rounds fired 9 or 21 hits depending who wrote the report. Sharnhorst class was sunk by a WW I class BB and cruisers

King George V class BB HMS Duke of York was commissioned in 41. Mistaking her for an older slower ship like you - and trying to out run her to her home port in Norway was her fatal mistake. Once slowed by Duke of York‘s 14 inch guns the cruisers and destroyers caught her and finished her. Her sister was used as a block ship at end of war. Hitler wanted to scrap her for steel after the loss of Bismarck. Scharnhorst class was really a BC not. BB. Even if with the plan and 13.5 inch gun upgrade they were only to be 3 x 2 not 3x3. Dunkirk class had 2 x 4 mounts of 13.5 “. That was the most bad ass battle cruiser ever made. Then Scharnhorst then Hood then Renown.

Does this game operation on a turn-based system? The faster firing times of the Scharnhorst's 11" isn't readily apparent.

I apologize I Did not totally State the other problems with the German battleship was a lot of their main systems wiring was above the armor plate thus susceptible to incoming shells and that's what caused the accuracy to Go a wire

I believe based off of Real Data the North Carolina would tear the German ship apart at Range. 16” guns vs 11” guns. Now a duel between North Carolina and Bismarck would have been a close fight. First major hits might tell the tale.

3 minutes - about right 99 of 100 times. Actually she'd have used all 31.5 to run away like she did when with her sister - vs only 6 x 15" guns of Renown. Scharnhorst and Gniesenow were 2nd best battlecruisers only slightly behind Dunkerque class in WW!!, Honorable mention for Hood and even Renown class but too old and not near as well armored. Alaska really a Large Cruiser but even as a BC didn't have the armor to defend Scharnhorst 9 x 11" or Dunkerque 8 x 13" - both of which had near battleship armor. Alaska's auto loading 12" guns threw more weight of shell per minute then Iowa (just not 2300 lb shells!) but not designed to battle Capital ships. Fast enough to out run or outgun any and all. The ultimate Cruiser killer! Not BC killer though.

I think the Alaska class was more than a match for some of the Battle Cruisers but not all. If Alaska got close enough and was acetate she might have inflicted a bunch of damage. I read her rate of fire was really high.

@@floydrandol2731 Auto loading 12 inch guns fired same weight per minute as Iowa class. But not penetrating enough against most legit battle cruisers. She was the ultimate cruiser killer / armor protection only up to 8 or 9 inches. At 33 knots outgun anything she couldn’t out run.
