Very interesting..... the Amber finish looks superb. Rolled tone holes are an interesting decision..... Jim, as always you make any horn sound good. Will be interesting to see how this new brand is accepted in the marketplace. 👍

i’m shocked that you guys are releasing this saxophone. I can’t believe it has rolled tone holes. Engraving like that and a unique design aesthetic with a beautiful name like Atlantic London that just screams art deco 1940s with a hard case, neck strap and mouthpiece for that price of sub $4k as real working professional tenor sax player this is the real deal and at a price range that I can appreciate and work with, looking forward to trying one soon!

Thanks Jim. Nice looking saxes. Could I suggest that you guys include some info on adjustability available on review saxes, and also build quality. These are the qualities that earn the "professional" tag (imho).

A very pleasant surprise! with a lot of micro brands coming out of America this is so positive. There's a lot to like, sound with rolled tone holes and a bam style case, not to mention unlacquered at no extra cost!

I really like the name "The Duke". It sounds very posh and British. My thoughts would be a tuxedo dressed man with a Top hat. The look of the guard keys seems appropriate for that warm sounding horn. Cheers on your review and other reviews, Jim! (From an American living in Japan) That is a BOSS looking mouthpiece and ligature combination.

Very nice. I do worry about the minimal key guards however but nice to see a top quality product at a relatively affordable price

Jim- you sounded great on both saxes! Minor aesthetic complaint, the bell brace should have matched the rounded key guards. It looks off to me.

There's a compartment within the case that stores these! Apologies, Jim didn't show this in the vid!

Good afternoon l enjoyed your presentation but was disappointed in the circles you made with regard to the price. Words like affordable are nice but not to the point. By just saying close to three thousand pounds or just the real price would be a far way better indication. Thanks anyway.

I'm now torn between the Trevor James Signature Custom RAW tenor and the Atlantic tenor. Any reason why you are not playing the mouthpiece that came with the tenor?
@saxworldwide2 ай бұрын
Hi Pimeye, we were filming at the shop until very late and forgot to include a section featuring these mouthpieces! We realised it the next day. We'll post a reel on Instagram and a short video here on KZbin as soon as possible so you can hear them. They sound great though, the Tenor is a slant-style piece and the alto is based on a Meyer

Jim what kind of neck strap are you using here ? Nice sound , you make everything sound so lovely

Is the neck strap available separately?
@saxworldwide2 ай бұрын
It will be in the future! Keep an eye out for it!
@LuanneFose2 ай бұрын
I'm interested in this neck strap. Please pass on a tip to put rubber around the connector to the instrument. I have found that metal ones after time wear away the connector piece on the sax. If that was done, I would also love to buy this neck strap separately - I already love my own horn.

@michaelcorner38612 ай бұрын
Hi Jim and Co. The price is reasonable enough for a pro instrument. Where are these actually manufactured? Are the parts UK made but assembled in Taiwan or elsewhere? Is it completely UK made? Foreign made? Going off topic....I'm going to be perhaps TOO honest here. I'm a professional doubler, primary instrument is clarinet. I'm Principal Clarinet in my orchestra, but have done dozens if not hundreds of different productions of Broadway shows in the pit, and countless big band gigs and casuals. Broadway show jobs have almost disappeared in all but the very largest markets, and even on Broadway and in London the number of players employed in the pit bands is way, way down....replaced by rock shows and synthesizers. Covid made this trend that much worse. Big Band gigs don't happen anymore, like at all. For weddings, parties, and other casuals, people hire a DJ, not a band. Been true for years. In a word, my symphony work is still there, maybe a little slower than pre Covid, but the doubling work, the ability to play sax professionally, is basically gone. Just anecdotally, I've had one six week show engagement involving doubling since Covid, but have played sax as part of my symphony work quite a few times! So, WHY in the world would someone create a new model of professional saxophone? It might be the best sax for the money in the world....but why? If one already has their Selmers, or Yamahas, or Yanis, I don't see working pros (or what's left of the work) wanting to buy this thing. Aspiring students, perhaps, look for their first pro horn? maybe....but there's no real future I see anywhere for almost anyone (there's always room for another Brecker or Sanborn) aspiring to play sax professionally and actually make a living. Thanks. Sorry to be so negative here. Have a great day. BTW, loved the store when I visited last summer!
@saxworldwide2 ай бұрын
Jim here. Yes, it's sad that pit work is being reduced in the way you describe. Thanks for sharing your story. I feel we all need to rally together to get it back to where it was before. We all know you can't beat the sound of a full fledged pit band, rather than a bunch of synths. To your two quesions: 1; the sax is made in Taiwan, and the set-up work is completed in London. 2; I need to explain to you that the vast majority of sax players around the planet are not professional players. They are hobbiests, playing in local community bands, whether it's jazz or classical, or something in-between. And within this a high percentage of them get really into their gear, often buying the best that's available. It's an escape from their day job, and something they love doing. So why not make them a sax that they'd love to own? But also, why wouldn't a pro want to buy an Atlantic? It's not a hard and fast rule that a pro should only play a Selmer, Yamaha or Yani when there are other brands that can do just as good a job, and I believe that Atlantic can easily be in this mix.

@@DJM626 look at that alto it has Selmer style SA80II keywork, cannonball/P Mauriat large bell flare, and it’s made in the same factory as P Mauriat used to be before they bought their own factory.

10 -15 years ago we had pro saxophones from Taiwan at around 1500-1800$. What happened? Now most of them are asking 4-5k!!!! Has the world gone mad? Smh
@marks.66562 ай бұрын
Even crazier, most horns coming out of Taiwan (Atlantic, TM Custom, Ponzol Pro One, JL Woodwinds NYC) now come with better setups from the factory than a new Selmer Paris horn, and they can outplay a well-set up Mark VI.
@DJM6262 ай бұрын
Same goes for my Ishimori Tenor that I recently purchased. Plays better than any Mark VI I've ever owned and my Shadow that I just sold. No regrets on my purchase, whatsoever
@TreyLamount2 ай бұрын
The horns coming out of Taiwan are MUCH better now. Like the comment above, a lot of the instruments coming out of the Taiwanese factories are setup and playing much better than the new selmers. Especially whatever factory is producing the Ishimori and JL woodwind horns (I believe they’re coming out of the same factory but it hasn’t been confirmed). Even the cannonballs are much better now.

Taiwanese saxophones are now among the best in the world, and most are still significantly cheaper than their French or Japanese counterparts.
