Story:
In an alternate take on the famous film, Alien [1979] by Ridley Scott, Atlas portrays the events of the Nostromo crew if they had not survived. Characters Jessica Erikson, Karl Larsen, Aidan Ferrell and Ian Meyers discover a distress beacon being broadcast from their sister ship, the Nostromo. Erikson decides to respond to the S.O.S broadcast by rerouting their mission temporarily to send a investigation team compromising of her, Karl and Aidan with Ian staying behind to keep an eye on the ship. What will they discover aboard the Nostromo? What happened to the crew?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Authors Note:
Hey everyone. Thank you once again for stopping by to Atlas. This film was created from a passion of Alien [1979] by Ridley Scott. From writing the script to building the sets to animating to voice acting to audio and visual editing this film took me a total of 8 months to complete. I've put forth my absolute best effort for every category (animation, visual effects, sound design, voice acting, script writing, set construction, accuracy/lore etc...) and hope you will all enjoy Atlas. In my opinion this is my best animation thus far on my channel and has taught me a lot about every aspect of film and content creation. Constructive criticism is welcome. I was overall happy with the result of this film despite some exceptions. These exceptions include not being fully happy with some shots in the animation and the motion tracking/rotoscoping on the lens flares for the helmets. A behind the scenes video will be uploaded after a couple of weeks, this video shall include a in depth look at how the sets were built, how the vfx/sound was done, how the lighting/cinematography etc... were acheived so stay tuned for that.

This film is by far in my opinion my best film to date! I spent a total of eight months working on this film and I put forth my best effort in terms of set design, animation (for the most part), sound design, visual effects, practical effects, script/characters and voice acting. Behind the scenes coming in a couple of weeks.

Impressive stuff man! The lighting, miniatures, green screen and voice acting was all on point. A few shots had some funky animation, but it was waaaay better than your previous animations. The suspenseful ambience you created was really convincing, and the POV scenes were done brilliantly. Overall, this is most certainly your best animation, and in my opinion you have improved drastically. Awesome work Rapid!

Thanks. I’ve got to agree with the animation, some of the Hallway shots were a bit off due to being tired and burnt out and also partially because I was listening to music which distracted me. The dialogue scenes were also way too exaggerated in terms of head movement. All of that I can learn from and hopefully improve on next time.

Great job! the music and the first-person view of the stop motion make it much darker and scarier. the dark environments make it really suspenseful. The movement was great! but in my opinion the people should of moved a lot slower to give the sense of if it catches them there screwed. Great job loved it so much!

Incredible work mate! You did a stellar job replicating the look and atmosphere of the original films, the lighting was spot on as always and the animation was squeaky clean 👌 Using those old lego Atlantis helmet was such a genius idea - I never knew they fit on a mcx figure so smoothly. And were those tiny light bricks on the tops of the helmets? If it was anything else that just goes to show how perfect they look! The script was accurate to the source material with awesome VA's and those scale model shots looked brilliant. You got me patiently waiting for a sequel 👀
@RapidActionAnimations
@RapidActionAnimations 2 жыл бұрын
First of all I’ll answer the sequel comment. There’s plenty of room for a sequel and I’m going to consider doing one but if so it would be even more ambitious (might as well get started now). The lights on their helmets were done using my software. I couldn’t Motion track the effects because it was a video effects rather than its own layer and that forced me to make over 2,000 individually copy pasted layers which I used to manually move the lens flare each frame of the animation (it was the most time consuming process of the whole film). I really appreciate the kind words. While working on Atlas I immersed myself in Alien as a whole by playing Alien isolation, watching/learning Alien lore/timelines and by watching Aliens 1986. I really did my best to transfer the art style and the atmosphere into this film. Glad you enjoyed it. Edit: also I’m doing a behind the scenes in a couple weeks so that should help bring more depth to the detail work I did.

First of all, I loved the atmosphere and the miniature shots. I also found the visual effects to be *really* good. The story was interesting too. I do think that some of the character movements were way too fast tho. And while the flashing lights were very cool, it seemed like too much for me at the end, it felt like my eyes were dying lol. But overall, great job! Definitely your best work yet. I respect the effort you've put into it, and I believe it was worth it.
@RapidActionAnimations
@RapidActionAnimations 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. For the flashing lights I disagree personally but that’s my opinion. Edit: I agree with the animation being janky in some shots but in terms of movements being fast, either than the hand motions and maybe some shots it seemed to me well paced. I’ve always had a faster style than some other animators which is not bad if I pull it off well. I think I need to definitely practice my animation skills as I’m not the best at some things such as walk cycles and or other movements. Overall, either than those few shots I was happy with the animation.

great work man, I congratulate and applaud you for your dedication on this project. Cant believe you stuck around for 8 months doing this, I could NOT do that for sure. Your set design is so amazing and all those details hand drawn onto the cardboard is stellar, that must've taken so long to do. the VFX are very nice and the green letters being typed out was really cool. You built up a nice atmosphere and i loved the scenes where you could see through the masks. The end explosion was really cool too! However, I do have a few gripes with some scenes in this. 2:43 A lot of animators have trouble with walk animations, I do too. But the way they move is unnatural. Its not how humans walk.when we walk our legs go opposite from our arms. If my left leg goes forward my right arm goes forward. If my right leg goes forward my left arm goes forward. They are opposite. How you made your figures move was right leg goes forward and right arm goes forward. You should stand up and look at yourself walking to see what im saying. 3:05 I feel like some scenes, they move a little too fast, theres so little frames that it looks really cartoony. Slow it down. You used to take a much slower take to animation, and I feel like thats when you truly peaked... Now in some scenes characters move oddly fast, like they're in a rush at all times. I just wanted to point out some things that need some work on, I think you should take a slower pace to movements that dont really need to be fast. Sorry if im coming a little harsh but I think you'll understand where im coming at.
@RapidActionAnimations
@RapidActionAnimations 2 жыл бұрын
For the arm swinging I do agree. I completely struggle with animating a good walk cycle when there’s multiple figures. I can always animate one figure we’ll but for multiple I don’t find it easy. In terms of movements being fast I agree but also disagree. I found most movements were done either than the arm movements which could have been slowed down a bit but it’s not noticeable in my opinion. I found the head bobbing during dialogue more annoying than the arm movement. The reason that my older animations were slower is because I took more time for every shot. I used to upload one to five second videos which I would spend maybe an hour or two working on meaning that I spent plenty of time on a single shot. Projects like this cause you to burnout and at times just put out bad shots and animation that’s not perfect. Other animators who have posted longer projects also have had choppy shots and parts that didn’t work well yet they don’t get backlash. My style has definitely changed because the length of my videos has changed. After long projects like this I lose my feel for animation as I don’t get to practice fight scenes and or other essential things and it leads me to make mistakes. After S.O.S I got that feel back but lost it again during Atlas partially. I will take this into consideration but I have always preferred a faster style rather than a slower style. Edit: also walk cycles are not my strength. Lots of animators can agree they are challenging to make realistic (especially if there’s multiple figures)

That was pretty good Rapid. Some of the movements were smooth, while it felt like others were rushed out the door. Specifically the part where the Xenomorph first emerges and the guy does a full 180 and fires his pistol. He should have reacted, THEN pulled out his pistol to fire. Another thing that requires a bit of work is the timing for your sound design. Specifically the dialogue and the bit where there was gun fire. The character would either do an action or start bobbing their head around quite a few frames too early before the actual dialogue came in. Sound design could have been a little crisper and the walk cycles were a little bit inconsistent. A few of them looked really clean, while others looked rushed. I enjoyed the lighting and the set design a lot. Loved the head light on their suits and the space shots were really cinematic to look at. This is definitely your best piece of work to date. You can only go up hill from here 🙏
@RapidActionAnimations
@RapidActionAnimations 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I definitely agree with the animation, I was burnt out of working on the project which made some shots wack and also I was listening to music which made me slightly distracted. The dialogue wasn’t timed the best which I can agree with, part of the problem there is that every voice actor I had forgot one line with the exception of one so I really had to edit my way around gaps in the voice work. It’s definitely not perfect and I would have gone back to fix things but nonetheless I’m still proud of it. Thanks for the feedback. Edit: also for the Xenomorph 180 part he reacted to the sound rather than a visual. I thought that part was fine but I’ll keep that advice.

The sounds are usually from Aegis mind, Hectorlo, ThatSFXGuy etc... and other random/non copyright sources. Dude this is by far your best animation yet. I just finished watching it and was amazed by it. I loved that slow buildup to the xenomorph being on the ship. The ambience, music, lighting was all perfect imo. I can tell you put your heart and soul into this video. I see you got lots of inspiration from Alien Isolation (love that game). The only issues I had with this, which is a very minor issue, was that a few of the shots were a little quick and some of the dialogue could’ve been a little better. But overall, amazing video dude. Ill rate it a 9.5/10

Excellent work Rapid! 👏 This is, in my opinion, one of your greatest animations yet! I hate that I missed the premiere 😣, I really wanted to watch this when it premiered! The animation is very good, very smooth and well done. The lighting was amazing! The flashing lights, the dark blackout lighting of the ship, the lighting on the visors of the space suits, all were so well done! Some of the best lighting effects I've seen in fact. The practical effects were really good, I really like the model ships & everything you did there! One thing that I will say though -and I mean this with utmost respect- I did find the story a little hard to follow at times, such as when the alien attacks. I'm not really sure why this is but I will re-watch this a few times because I enjoyed it anyway. All and all though this is a AWESOME film Rapid! I hope that it gets lots of popularity because you deserve it! 👏 👍

Thanks so much Stoat. The story in its essence goes like this. The Nostromo stops maintaining contact with the company so a special team is sent to investigate. They end up boarding the ship and finding a body of a crew member that has a recording basically setting the Nostromo fate in stone. Afterwards they decide to blow up the ship due to the biological hazard and to do that they split up to open the reactor and then blow it up. Karl ends up being ambushed by the alien and killed whilst Aidan and Jessica make their way to escape but almost die. In the end the Nostromo blows up and they’re left to fend for themselves in deep space. Hope that clears it up.
