Hollywood just wants to make spectacles now. Blockbusters. Little respect for the source material, for the characters. Independent filmmakers creating as a labor of love is where it’s at. If Hollywood were smart, they’d make smaller investments across many Indy filmmakers who are themselves fans of the material… not expected to set up a franchise, not expected to establish a multiverse or to respect (or create) canon of other storytellers.

Totally agree. Modern film making lacks that “creative frugality”. When you are pushed to put as much value into something because you’re not backed up by a massive SFX/Art/Production team you have to work so close with a small team. When that happens and it works you get this kind of brilliance.

With decent funding this could’ve been a really good movie. The premise the plot, the environment were all wonderfully fresh for the Alien franchise. Stepping away from the Ripley knockoffs was a breath of fresh air. All my criticisms would most likely have been resolved around a longer runtime and an ability to have proper special effects. Very well done.
@cyanyde49502 ай бұрын
the only real criticism I have is them having Weyland Yutani Corporation products and facilities in this time period, as within the Aliens mythos WYC didn't exist until 2012 when it was founded. that was really the only thing out of place for it that was a discrepancy aside from the one scene where the commander picked up xeno blood at the start where they forgot it was acid blood for a second during filming, other than that it was a really nice watch with a fresh idea and storyboard, we already know xenomorphs have been around since before even the mayans, so it wouldn't be outlandish to have a film set during WW1 or something or even later/earlier than that. this franchise wouldn't necessarily have to be tethered to distant future settings tbh books and comics give plenty of resources for pre-futurism era encounters.
@muzwack2 ай бұрын
@@cyanyde4950I only seen the can of corn and it said Weyland, I couldn’t see the Yutani part, where was that? Also, what part did the commander touch the blood? The only guy I saw touch something was the guy when they found the ship. The stuff he touched wasn’t bloody it was the slimy stuff they touch in every movie. Unless you’re talking about a different part again?
@cyanyde49502 ай бұрын
@@muzwack the dynamite is also by Weyland, among other little odds and ends in the bunkers, I could have been mistaken on the blood not having acid effect part, though usually the slime residue isn't green, and that scene was inside the trench around the same time frame as finding the dead face hugger.

It's the little touches that makes this so much better than anything I've seen in the last few years ( I say few...but it's probably a lot more than that). The fact that there was a can of 'Corn Bread' produced by Weyland & (enter another name here...I couldn't read the other name) gave me bloody chills. The Aussies and the Turks were ferocious fighters against each other in WW1. However, they would celebrate Christmas together and then get on with the fighting afterwards on an agreed time. It was a bloody mess, but the respect shown for each side by the other was always there. That's why we Aussies go back to reunite with our Turk mates every year on ANZAC Day. That was a great scene in this wonderful film that showed that you can bond over the shitstorm reigning over you. Dealing with the incomprehensible nightmare that you need to stick together. Thanks guys and gals!

The treatment of the subject, the reflection of the conditions of the period, the communication in the process with the "Turkish soldier" who is seen as the enemy, the description that all of these lands belong to people, and even the Lieutenant's defense against aliens (a "beautiful irony" by claiming the homeland of the Turks in Çanakkale, whose lands they came to invade) "This is my land" His saying "get out", "indicating the world", was a complementary answer to the scene narration at the end of the film, where the light of freedom is reflected and the Turkish soldier and the world are shown with the sunrise. As a 62-year-old Turkish and international person, I would like to thank everyone who contributed and wish you continued success. you are amazing

It makes sense and is somewhat enjoyable so Ridley Scott would hate it.

9.5/10 No Man’s Land is absolutely brilliant film with a great story line, outstanding acting and a real treat for fans of the alien movie franchise. The Story It's hard to believe that one person, Christan Kennedy was able to write, produce, edit and shoot this fantastic yarn. It fits so neatly into the franchise cannon and really holds its own conceptually. It was a brilliant idea to place this story is the chaos of WW1 and I’m sure that there are some Hollywood writers slapping their foreheads in frustration because they didn’t come up with this idea. Cinematography The cinematography and lighting are perfectly done with great saturation and color palettes.The lighting was exceptional and painted the scenes with incredible nuisances. The close-up work is gorgeous and really pulls you into the characters and the tight living conditions of trench warfare. The weapons were also accurate for the time period and the addition of the BAR was a nice touch. Traci Rose’s costuming is bang on and credibly reflects the time period of the story. Actors The actors really look the part. The makeup was top notch and Jo Franklin and crew deserve full kudos for their work. The lead actor, with his craggy face and humongous beard, reminded me of Jorma Tommila from the movie Sisu. Easter Eggs The homages and Easter eggs that were brilliantly incorporated. The Weyland canned food was a nice touch. The scene with the shotgun shoved down the aliens’ throat and the resulting acid blood spray from the blast, reminded me of the scene in the APC doorway with Hicks in Aliens. When they set up the machine guns at the tunnel, I was hoping to see a scene similar to the ALIENS movie when they lifted the ceiling panels and saw the swarm of Aliens headed towards them. It would have been very cool to see them pouring out of the tunnel into a hail of machine gun fire. a la the smart guns that were set up in the tunnels on LV427. I especially loved the “Bad Robot” ending. I didn’t see it coming and I wonder if a shot of a face hugger skin, lying on the ground somewhere in the tunnels when the soldiers were exploring, would have set it up better. Nitpicking When you set the bar so high in your film the parts that don't work well unfortunately stand out more than they would in a lesser crafted endeavor. The thick dialects and no subtitles made it difficult to understand what the actors were saying. The costumes seemed a bit too clean at times and didn’t have that lived in look. Living in trenches for weeks at a time would cause a great deal of wear and tear to clothing and equipment and unfortunately the costuming didn’t match the makeup. The choppy CGI at the beginning and did not forebode great production values for the film. However, this was soon made up for with action scenes where we got to see the Aliens in action. The ship interior was a total misfire, it simply looked like the basement of a building with a lot of pipes in it. The square architecture did not match the round shapes of the ship we saw at the start of the film. And the height of the ceilings did not match the scale of the ship’s occupants. The “alien autopsy” corpse lying on the ships floor was a disappointment. I get that Kennedy was maybe trying to tie the classic “Little Green Men” to the Alien Franchise, but it seemed odd and out of scale. I’ve seen a lot of sci-fi movies in my time. I saw ALIEN in the theaters when it first came out. I am a huge fan of the franchise and I’ve seen a lot of fan made films pertaining to this genre. To refer to Christan Kennedy’s work of art as a “fan film” does not do it justice. It is truly one of the best non studio films made. I would have gladly paid money to see this in a theater.

I didn't mind the ship's interior, we can see it wasn't an Engineer ship at the beginning. So some other unfortunate species found the Xenos too.

@@chris8669I really loved that as well, it just shows that the Alien universe is just that much greater. And if we're honest any species can fall victim to the face huggers and Xenomorphs. I loved it !!!

This is what directors and producers should be striving for to make movies like they were supposed to be made. Let's hope this is the beginning of the renaissance of a novel approach that will bring quality and thrills into movies such as this and many more to come.

A fanmade film has given us a hero to sit beside Ripley herself. Gripping, and perfect balanced pacing of action and suspense to match Aliens.

The climax was superb and the characters were amazingly fleshed out for such a short run time. The pay off with the Lieutenant’s story was incredible, fitting and well earned! I honestly think they could have ended it right then and it would’ve been flawless!

Some films stand out as masterpieces of their genre. This is the perfect example. I watched this about six months ago - I'll check later and see - and I remember I thought about it for days afterwards, it left that powerful an impression on me. I enthused to others for weeks and rightly so. It's turned up, again, in my feed, so I'm about to watch it for a second time, knowing it's time enjoyably well spent. Anyone thinking of watching it - don't think, just dive in, I guarantee you'll love it.
