The first two vertebrae (C1 and C2, or the atlas and axis) are a bit special. So special that they're worth looking at individually and having a think about how they articulate with one another and with the skull.
And what happens if they fracture?

Thank You 🙏 ✨💗✨ I’m 53 Yes, I was wearing my seatbelt 😉 Unfortunately, No Air Bag Deployed from the stirring wheel . Damaged my C1 occurring a blood hematoma on my brain 09-29-2021 I hit a 900 lb Moose taking out 6 guardrails early in the morning on the way to work . I was in the ER sitting on a bed with a neck collar that didn’t fit properly with couple of bags of ice for 10 hrs 2 CT Scans Sent home with seizure medication Keppra 1,000mg 2x a day for the next 15 days; No Refills and Tylenol 500 mg when needed. Thankfully on my last visit October 6th was able to attain a neck collar that fit well. Next follow up is November 11th I’m feeling optimistic and stronger each day. Eating healthy and resting. Blessed ✨💗✨

I have got a question for you. Every time I go to the chiropractor he has to adjust my atlas he says. Looking at how fragile this could be in your teaching is adjusting of the atlas a good idea?

If you're not comfortable, the patient always has control to say no. If you have concerns about hypermobility, ask for other techniques like posture strengthening exercises or use of an activator. If communication with your chiropractor is difficult, get a 2nd or 3rd opinion from other chiropractors, shop around for someone that has a treatment plan catered to your improvement.

Good outline, however, i would say the naming of the 'dens', or the odontoid process as you call it because that is what you have been taught, by itself appears like a small bony body with a head...and wide shoulders appearing as a minature human to the chest level right within itself. So given this appearance, what should it be called if having the word Atlas? Yes, it should be called the Atlas bone...this odontoid process. That's the problem with western anatomy. They always screw the names up. In fact all anatomy in my opinion needs a thorough revamping keeping it simple with common sense naming...that is attuned with for instance, those inner processes that are functional to their inner workings...for instance names we see in the Taoist : Heavenly Gate and so and so. I hope you catch my sentiment. In my opinion, additionally, no invidivual's name should be anywhere on the body, or in physiology or anywhere else : such things only lead to confusion, distraction and...block the intuition with respect when being taught about the body. Similarly the way anatomy is taught is often way too 'disjointed', incomplete, unwholesome, I would say...at least it was 50 years ago. Having said that, you got the job done here. Thanks.
