Atlas Craftsman Lathe Model: 101.07301 The lathe ended up good, I think. The only problem I had was the lack of good motor. Overall, it is much better than 109 series. (In my option).

Going thru your vid’s… all great work on the resto’s you’ve done! 👍🏼👍🏼 I’ve either had access too or owned many different vintage/antique machine shop tooling over the decades; recently acquired one of them itty-bitty Craftsman 109-21270 lathes that looks identical to the one you restored shortly before this Atlas lathe… it was in very rough shape, rust-wise ‘but’ complete, less side cover over gears, which I’ve already acquired a replacement via eBay. Considering what functional options this Atlas has over the small 109, I’d much prefer having obtained one of these over that 109 any day! Very cool lathe!! Per your gold 109, it’s possible that its chucks’ backing plate was mounted 1/4 off, causing that wobble it had. Mine came with same 4 jaw chuck ‘but’, the spindle had a backing plate only from a 3 jaw chuck-- WELDED ONTO THE SPINDLE 🤯!! Had to destroy that backing plate with that spindle in large lathe & recut down to original 1/2”x20 spindle thread & ream fresh MT0 into female end of that spindle, for it to work again. Works about as good as expected, for its size & quality… again, I’d prefer it been one of these Atlas versions instead. Keep up your great work; “practice makes perfect”.. as is said.

Hello Sean. Thank you for watching my videos and thank you for your complement. I appreciate it. The 109 lathe that you mentioned, was a good mini lathe for me, but it was very loud when gears were in action, much louder than the one in this video. I sold this one and later on got my self a 101.07300. It is one model earlier than this one and hard to find. I still have it, it has been one of my favorite lathes so far. It’s very identical, and all the parts are the same, which made it easier for me to find parts for it. WELDED on to the spindle? That’s crazy. One mistake caused lot of work for you. You definitely have more experience than me. If it was up to me, i would have had to buy myself a new one. Well done on that. 👍.

Turned out nice for 75 bucks (been looking for a lathe for months lol)! I noticed something though, read the numbers on the chuck at 12:38...

It’s very rare but depending on where you live, sometimes you can get lucky. You have good eyes. I did notice the numbers afterward and fixed it but I ended up right selling it the next day. Unfortunately I didn’t get to take a video for it. Im still learning as I go. Thank you for watching and I hope you get to find a good cheap lathe soon.

Hi. Thank you. That was a good lathe that I regret selling it up to this date. Thank you very much for subscribing and supporting. I’ll check out your restoration videos for sure. Thanks again.

Just finished your 3 steps. Awesome job. What is the little gear hanging from the right of center body near the worm drive?

Which part is this? Can you tell me by the minutes on the video please so I can check it. Thank you.

I believe it's 7:14 just hangs with a small gear on the bottom and some sort of indicator dial on top.

Ok now I see which one. That is a threading dial. When it comes to threading, you have to push the threading gear (the gear at the bottom of it) so it can connect to the lead screw. The threading dial tells you when to engage the half-nuts during threading. I hope this was helpful. Thank you for watching and for your compliment. I appreciate it.

What did you use to get the rust off?
@VintageCraftsmanTools2 жыл бұрын
It’s in the other part of the video. I used Evaporust for parts. And in some other parts I had to just simply brush it with (0000) grade steel wool. Thank you for watching.

I remember since the bed lathe was much larger so I had to soak bunch of cloth in evaporust and leave it on bed lathe for couple of hours and then use steel wool to remove the rust.
