ATLAS: Tramp Freighter Breakdown

I decided to take a closer look at the Tramp Freighter, the newly designated modular hauling ship.
We breakdown some Speed to Weight ratios, different sail configurations, swap out modular components, and more!
** MODULE FIX: You CAN manage to get two custom modules on a common Tramp if you drop a cargo rack and then re-dock the ship. Credit goes out to 'GG' from the comments **

remember, you can store stuff in cargo racks to reduce their overall weight value, so technically it holds a lot more than listed.

Absolutely correct. You can fill the max weight up to about 90% capacity before noticing any speed difference as well.

@@brettadams8623 Yes, when the ship is anchored, you would access the cargo crate by using the radial menu or pressing F to view its contents..

Thank you for your video, this is the ship I want, because I like gathering for our 3 player company. For the speed stats at the end, it looks like weight sails are slowest for relative weight. You mentioned the cargo sails increase the weight from 4000 to 10500, so at 50% weight it carries already more than the other configurations can carry in total, am I right?

It's true, but the weight sails definitely make you slower even though you can "carry more." The patch last night actually increased the effectiveness of weight sails on Tramps but I still don't know if it is enough to be more efficient that just using speeds that are carrying a smaller haul but getting there faster/safer!

Remove all the cargo racks with normal railings then place the single cannon module with armor. You now have the fastest little tank in the game.. med weight sail with large handling means you can still carry some stuff and move

Honestly, I'm not sure if they snuck in a quick fix for some of these issues, because on patch night I tried replacing the railings with Standard and Kraken's and still got zero snap points. Not the 'cannot place' error - but it acted as if the racks were built right into the ship. I will test again to see if anything is different, appreciate the feedback!

@@ragehatred You can only remove railings for the first 20 or so seconds of it being placed and it doesnt give you points back for them. So atm Im treating that as a bug.

They are both super cheap but the Cog is easier to pilot as a single player

How do you open the cargo after you sink ship

Soooo with the cargo racks weight reduction on stored goods make it carry more than other modular ships?? So the weight con is false?

No, it's still a con. For each cargo rack, even empty, it reduces the overall maximum speed. If you fill that rack, it reduces the speed even further. You are better off with a Broadsider with cargo racks. It can carry 4x as much and remains fast.

By re-docking, I simply mean pull the ship back into the shipyard and anchor.

@@Shadow-Hawk no worries, I just wanted to make sure I understood. As far as being accurate with the speeds and different sail combinations, I would always use the command 'setwind 15' between each new test to make sure the wind strength was always the same.

How does the general rowing module work?

After you craft it, you place them on your ship in a modular slot. The ship has to be anchored in a shipyard as well. To activate the rowing, you press Shift + Q to extend them, and then Shift + Q again to start rowing. To stop them, press Control + Q and then Control + Q again to retract the oars.

You can drop the cargo crates to increase your speed but you can't seem to replace the cargo railings with another, such as the standard railing.

Anyone have any idea of how to repair the Tramp Freighter? I haven't been able to figure it out.

You need a repair hammer in one hand with patch kits in your inventory. When you hit a panel to repair it, you need to stand near the piece you're repairing for 5 seconds (the green bar that fills up)

@@ragehatred Ha .. well here is the interesting part.... I don't need to repair my Tramp Freighter anymore because I died trying to tame a bear on some island somewhere and everytime I try to revive at the bed on my ship, it goes into the map loading screen and never loads. when I relog ... the ship marker and bed marker are both gone. I've lost 4 ships this way so far and have to start over. I was lucky to remember EXACTLY where i died and got 2 ships back, but not this last time (15 min ago) i r sad.

You are 100% wrong about its combat potential. Its speed and agility even with those 2 sets of cannons can easily control any situation 1v1.

Too bad this game is broke to all hell on Xbox. Graphics look like rudimentary polygons without textures, I remember a few months ago that the game was in a far better place but now it’s rough which is a shame BC I genuinely like this game a lot more than Sea of Thieves or Ark.

Not bad presentation but you need to let people know how bad at curves this ship is :),if u fill the cargo racks ya,is a decent small carryer,other ships with more weight and no possibility of cargo racks will not carry as much.Now,if u remove the cargo racks,than u have full speed,and that result how broken this ship is.

Modular ships are ruining the game without some serious tlc. Right now it is straight up not worth fighting modular ships because even if you sink them you can’t get into the rear castle to loot… This swings both ways and now you only ever see people on the shit handling non customizable boats that disincentivize piracy in a game about piracy. Cheap modular boats so people don’t give up/can get started is great…pvp where *no one* gets the loot…not so much

This ship is away stronger than gallon due to the bug mate so i got sunk by these ships they came so fast and hit my ship and got sunk so fast lol this game is total garbage

I will not argue that these ships need toned down a lot. They have too much speed, can carry more weight than should be allowed for a ship this size, and they cost next to nothing.
