Hmm.. posted a comment earlier but no longer see it. Short version is positioning the ship at a 90 degree angle instead of 180 to the elevator helps a ton. Get the ATLS out from anything where there is something close above it. Judiciously use the Z (free-look) key, remembering that as soon as you "place" the white hologram (don't use green if you have a cargo grid, lock it to the grid instead!) you can change you view immediately back to be ready to grab the next box. When a box is on the grid of a ship just double-click it to unlock it so the ATLS will do its normal full pull (OR when you place a box on the grid just normal lift it so it treats it like a tractor beam to fine-tune your placement!) Use mouse-wheel with the placement hologram to help with fine-tuning location (and use R to position your box better!) And always remember you can use BOTH the ATLS for gross/fast placement and then just get out and use your MaxLift for fine placement where needed. That should make a TON of difference for you.

I play often with a friend and the ATLS is very helpful. The ATLS move cargo neear cargo space, and the other person placed to grid. This is very fast.

I agree as a device for moving it close to the ship it is best used

The ATLS pairs well with certain ships and pretty poorly with others. I think you have shown this pretty well with your video.

Yes for sure I think things like the Hull ships it would be good

Funny thing is that the atlas would be better on the Hull A or B but it can’t carry them. Maybe we need to attach the atlas on its cargo grid.

Yea I think there are plans to be able to use the grids for other things

Ill try it later myself but wondering if the back would go easier if you put the 4's in first on the bottom?

Yea I will defo have to try that next time

I like the ATLS for just moving the boxes close and then using the MAX lift for more precise movements. I cannot stand moving that many boxes by hand and the ATLS is definitely useful just to not have to deal with all that scrolling. Also to get the most use out of the ATLS you gotta use its strength to your advantage, which is the big pull. Standing at the endpoint makes loading a lot easier since you'll be in a better position to manuever the boxes around
@NoobsGamingSCАй бұрын
Defo for getting the boxes near the ship it is good but after that we need to load ourselves
@OmnipotentJCАй бұрын
The ATLS is useless unless you have massive wide open spaces. The way it just slams and twists boxes around, blocks your view if there isn't space above you, and is ridiculously slow to get in and move around. I really hope the devs make the experience smoother.

I hope so too

The Atls has the issue of being better at just placing crates outside as too many ships have restrictive openings for cargo, even though they are cargo vessels. It's lack of a precision mode makes it not as useful as it should be. If I had my way, the Atls' default holding position of the crate would directly to right of the machine. The tractor beam arm is articulated so it wouldn't be an issue I would think. This would allow you to place the crate without blocking your vision, and being at same level as the machine would avoid the bashing into the ship's hull. I've never understood why CIG designs these things without consulting the average person who has experience with actual logistics jobs. I mean I like how the Atls works on principle, but the current game execution isn't that great. With very few changes( default holding position, faster walking speed, precision mode for it) the Atls could be amazing for loading cargo. Just not now unfortunately

It is terrible at loading in the ship

I just haven't found the ATLS to be that helpful.

I do find it quicker with the max lift

The ATLS is easier to use when you're not facing in the direction where you want to place the load. Don't use the mouse to look since it will turn the mech

Might be easier place the 4 SCU container first, then put the 16 SCU containers on top. As for the ATLS, how it is currently is terrible, but the placement of the hologram is a lot easier with mouse and keyboard, SC just isn't a controller game as it is right now. Fine control and looking out the side to move and place container with the ATLS holding down the left ALT key makes the ATLS a lot faster and better. But you'll still have the idiotic pathing and smashing containers into the ship and other things in the world. The ATLS needs some sort of smart patching, and a better default position when holding the container, so it doesn't block visibility. As mentioned, the movement and visibility can be solved by holding the left ALT key down.
@NoobsGamingSCАй бұрын
Cheers for the advice I will try that
@AlexanderMielchen29 күн бұрын
@@NoobsGamingSC Correction the key you need to hold down is Z not ALT, mixed em up, they're so close :D With Z held down you can look around and place the blue print box without moving the ATLS.

Its a long-winded video that summarizes a simple principle. Use the proper tool for the job. If you're in close quarters, and loading a small freighter then use a small tractor beam. The ATLS is not good for small freighters and so far most of the ships in game qualify as a small freighter.

I did want to show the whole thing rather than a quick summary, but yes until we test these things we won’t really know.

ATLS isn't even worth aUEC. 1st person view: garbage. Precise handling: nope. Convenient/efficient storage or locomotion: nope. All of the engineering, cargo hailing, and efficiency lessons that humans know in 2024... gone 900 years later. Humans are smart enough in 2954 to have jump points to different systems and quantum drives...but TOO STUPID TO MAKE CARGO HAULING AS EFFICIENT AS IT WAS IN 2024. This is why CIG needs twice as many developers and engineers, and half as many artists.
