Atlas Survival Shelters

Күн бұрын

Atlas installs a 10X33 culvert shelter with a generator pod that has a diesel generator. It took 4 days to install this bunker after the hole was dug.
Ron films lots of details in this video.
This is the short version of this installation, a complete version will come out soon. That will be 90 minutes long.

I think the design is really good, one thing I would change though is maybe a double airtight door as an airlock before entering the main bunker section just so when you do open the one airtight door, you’re not contaminating the rest of the bunker

I'd love to have one of these if I had the money, except mine wouldn't be a survival shelter. I would use it as my personal hangout, a place to be alone away from the world. Granted, I wouldn't need a generator pod since I'd hook it up to mains power.

You could always bury an RV. Put in a septic tank and fresh water tank. Dig out of an area about 40 ft square.go deep enough to have 3 ft of dirt on top. Build a dirt ramp and just back the RV down into it. Then build around it. Put in vents . The extra space outside the RV could be for storage and even a outside sitting area. You could lite it up with led bulbs. You could build a concrete bunker around it. Just an idea.

Have you ever thought about installing impressed current or even a sacrificial anode to protect the galvanized metal from rusting? You should a Perma-Cell and a volt meter to measure the potential between the soil and the bunker. You will be surprised with the current reading. I am curious because I use to work for a company and for pipelines and UST's. One other thing is, any rock and acidic soil conditions will cause a HOLLIDAY in the steel over time. Just things I dealt with over a 24 year time span. I have seen some 1/4" tanks develop a holidays in several locations on the lower third of the vessel. Just curious of the research?? You finished product looks very nice.

they should also use an isolation transformer like they do with ships when they connect to shore power , otherwise the same thing occurs and corrosion will be accelerated by the mains power connection. Victron make one specifically for ship to shore power.

How does that $150k stack up to something similar in ICF with concrete roof and floor? BTW, you should add some round tubing going down either side of the stairs for hand rails and you then you could put a cart on it with wheels made to roll down the tubing to make it easier to get supplies down with a winch system. could be offered as an upsell.

*I have a few recommendations from what I could see...* *1.* ALL of your metal should be COATED all sides/exposed metal with either a protective heavy paint, and/or a protective covering like spray-on Truck Bed Liner, thinner version (you know what I mean). *2.* Replace ALL PVC piping with Stainless Steel or similar so it lasts properly. Also, some of your piping otherwise might need to be stainless steel also. PVC degrades very quickly, it's bad to be using PVC for a survival shelter. *3.* Your smaller pipes, you should include a bigger "outer pipe" to protect the smaller pipe. The smaller pipe is inside the bigger pipe. This is because the smaller pipes contain things that might need to be changed etc., so this allows fixing and other changes.
@rvsorce7196

I thought he said the pvc pipe was going to the water, electric and sewer hookups which is normal plus he said a foundation for a house going over bunker?

Galvanized culverts last a very long time without water flowing through them. Buried PVC also lasts a long time not exposed to the elements. I replaced the metal water supply line to my home well over 30 years ago with no problem so far with it yet.
@leeuniverse
@leeuniverse 4 жыл бұрын
@@rvsorce7196 ... Normal for a house, but NOT a good idea for a Survival Shelter in which you want the materials to last 100's of years, not 10 or so. PVC doesn't last long at all when exposed to the elements, and when not it only lasts like double the time.

These shelters are the complete solution as it happens, well made thought trough, according to my observations as some one with No experience. In my own thinking I would suggest the addition 'basic survival gear, back pack, all purpose paper, water, fire starter, knife, weapons of choice, ammo, flashlights, batteries, battery operated radio if possible weather channel, complete head, nose. eyes, face protection. You can find more specific gear at the Red Cross Site, Amazon.com and Walmart also sells the survival package. Back to the shelters shown please do not go outside until you know if possible what conditions you are likely to encounter. Great Job I can not afford it but it is what it is. Thank you.
