The game was too short imo, P5R took me almost twice as long. Also felt like you didn't have much choice about archetypes when you needed to level up specific ones for the royal virtues. Also you could easily max every follower and visit every location on 1st playthrough.

Truly it is deserved. This takes the cake for Persona 3's amazing story, Persona 4's awesome well-meshing cast, and even deeper gameplay than what they did for Persona 5 Royal. It's got it all in this one and I've never been so joyful to see Atlus have a new IP that felt right back at home. It's as if Metaphor was that lost brother you'd been waiting for when all of those Persona games had ended the way they did. Good job to all of Atlus and thank you!

I actually was not very excited for this game and had less expectations for it cause it was not persona. After completing the game, doing almost every single optional stuff with over 100 hours in the game, I can say that its one of the greatest games of all time. I was such a fool for almost skipping this game cause it was not persona. Love the fantasy setting, need more of this.

I loved this demo so much that it was my most-played of the month of October with 80 hours. However, I usually wait a year after release to get a game. That way, it is likely to include everything extra, like the Royal version of Final Fantasy XV, at a lower price than it was released at.

I think Stellar Blade or Wukong were ahead. Metaphor has some great tracks but a lot of filler/reused music too. Was always going to be a hard one for them to win when other games have hundreds of orchestrated pieces.

Persona 5 was in a tough year right? Horizon Zero Dawn, PubG and Breath of the Wild? Cant really compare that to Astrobot and Black Myth Wukong. This was Atlus best chance to be honest. Usually Game of the Year has a juggernaut that they are just too niche to compete with.

Did you play Astrobot? I think it was the better game. It was very close but that felt next gen, and metaphor felt a bit like I was playing a PS4 game with the graphics and the reused assets and stuff. Astrobot scored higher user and critic scores on metacritic too so I wouldn’t say it was just nostalgia. It’s fine if this was your personal game of the year but I don’t think anyone robbed anything, Astrobot was good. To be honest neither of them would have got a look in had BG3 or Elden Ring or something releas d this year.

@jaybee4288 Scores don't matter. What matters is what the games do. Astro Bot is just another Astro Bot game. Metaphor is actually a new game. Mechanically and narrative it's a better game. I played and beat both. Astro Bot is a fun game, but it doesnt have a robust narrative or mechanics as Metaphor accompanied by a phenomenal narrative. This is from an objective perspective, not just my personal perspective. The same can be said of Astro Bot. It's just reused assets from the previous Astro Bot games.

The best ones used to clock in at around 50-60 hours. A ton of metaphor is just filler. They give you the same dungeon about 6 times just with different lighting, it adds little to the game.

I like the game but it’s kinda flawed. Goes on a bit too long and repeats itself a lot. When it’s good it’s very good, but by the end of it I just wanted it to stop giving me quests in optional dungeons and things. It just feels like they weren’t thought through very well, like making you do the dragon temples twice, or having the first optional dungeon make it so you would have a harder time if you used certain jobs only to drop that going forward. Also several of the “palaces” being reused content really hurt them in comparison to P5. Hopefully they’ll refine a lot of these ideas for Persona 6. It was a good game though.

I think it was a weak year with little to choose from. There literally weren’t many big releases that actually had a narrative. But yeah somehow it went under the radar how woke this game is. I’m surprised the political commentators like Vara Dark and Asmongold didn’t hate on it.

I’m surprised to see someone else say this 😂. Game is good but people just seem to glaze over that you basically do the same dungeon over and over again and even the main “palaces” repeat themselves. Martira and Dragon Temple section was great and unique but almost every other chapter feels the exact same with the same boss.
