Joseph is a highly regarded Australian watercolour artist who has the ability to create a magical atmosphere and mood in his paintings. In this film we follow him as he paints in Australia and Venice. He paints a busy Melbourne street full of movement and life as well as the marina at Williamstown with its boats and the city of Melbourne in the background. In Venice he paints a view of the fish market on the Grand Canal. Boats, cars, buildings and figures are all portrayed in an impressionistic manner.

I've seen Josephs films endless times and still can watch them over and over again. It's been quite a while since he published his last one. I'm sure any new film would sell like hot cakes. Even if he only painted in the studio. Are there any films planned in the future? I would buy them immediately.

Glad you so enjoy Joseph's films. He has no plans at the moment to make another one. Sorry to disappoint!

I find Joseph likes to draw scenes with opposing sun light. This way he can easily omit most details of the far objects (in the shade) and use bright outline to brig out the near objects, including people. This creates a nice space, distance and depth. Occasionally he also uses bright objects in the background, so bright that he can omit the details, and the near objects in the shade. Same principle, either way, it creates space.

Yeah...painting into the light reduces objects to shapes...silhouettes basically. Its a fantastic trick to simplify the subject.

Wow his accent is fascinating. it's an australian accent mostly, but his austrian origins blend in a really interesting way.

This is something we may be in the future, but not at the moment. If you order from us postage is free, but we recommend you pay an additional £5.50 for "international signed for". This is per order, not per DVD.
