The 'station shut-down' film went when broadcasting went 24hr. The ABC had a lovely national anthem film :)

Is the Chris Kearns doing the final announcements the same gentleman who was also a famous radio announcer?

It's pretty cool that ATN-7 played the "My City of Sydney" film and song again for their analog shutdown in December 2013.

NBN-3 Newcastle also used that National Anthem Sequence. Also were they also broadcasting on UHF then too Hence the ATN-7/46 in the test pattern

Actually, "My City of Sydney" was replaced with Debbie Glasser's cartoon about Sydney during the second half of the decade. (By then Tommy returned to the U.S.) But the kangaroos stayed, until 7 began broadcasting 24/7 in the early 1990s.

Honestly, they should have kept the kangaroos all together or for a special occasion, reanimate the sign off!

The "My City of Sydney" song, along with the kangaroo animation, was used in 1969 for the closedown as well, as seen on KZbin. Does anyone know if that sequence (My City/kangaroos) was used pre-1969 or post-early 1980s?
@tggc19835 жыл бұрын
Nope. But I do know that these two were reused in 2013 during the analog switch off except in the kangaroo cartoon, instead of saying good night, it said Goodbye.

essvee86, if it is in 1984, it must be early 1984 because Seven Network was still using their "Watch us now" slogan they had since 1983.

@vidpro23 - Sort of reminiscent of the "McClatchy Bee" of KOVR Sacramento and KMJ (now KSEE) Fresno, CA.

I'm from Woolloomooloo and I remember the joey getting tucked into bed and the national anthem being played and seeing it again brings a tear to my eye and I know as I have always known that Sydney has and always will shit on Melbourne.

This must be around 1984, because they're using NBC's old slogan "Be There!", which was around 1984-1986

Now that the closedown and the PM5544 colour test card is all the thing in the past. In the last six months I had been doing experiments with the test card and it's a complete success, all you need to do is check out my KZbin channel to go and see what the fuss is all about. Episode 14 on my channel has the story.

Was this channel owned by NBC? It uses the "NBC There, Be There" campaign which tips me off a little.
@Channel37TV3 жыл бұрын
No, they weren't owned by NBC. They just licensed a few of NBC's promo campaigns. The 9 network did the same with some of ABC's promo campaigns.

The kangaroo putting its joey to bed remained well until ATN7 began broadcasting 24/7 in the 1990s, and in its final years, was preceded by Debbie Glasser's cartoon, which is seen in the 1989 signoff. So Tommy Leonetti's lyrics were replaced with Debbie Glasser's animation. I doubt that they used the kangaroo short to remind kids to go to bed at 7:30pm; what is known is that Leonetti's film was produced before the Opera House was completed.
