ATOLE DE AVENA con leche // Creamy Mexican Oatmeal ❤️

This Atole De Avena takes me far back to my childhood, my mom prepared this for us regularly. We loved it alone or with raisins, and it was delicious anytime of the day or night. This is a traditional Mexican oatmeal recipe, some like it thick and some like it thin and many like to blend the oats into a thin powder then make it into a smooth drink. I like it thick enough to eat it with a spoon or drink it right out of the cup, I’m telling you it’s all good. Atole de Avena is also delicious cold and topped with your favorite fruit. I hope you give it a try.❤️

INGREDIENTS-------------
2 1/2 C. Water
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole cloves
1 1/2 C. Quaker Oats
1/2 C. Sugar (i used sugar in the raw)or granulated
1/4 tsp Salt or less
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
3 C. Whole milk
Ground cinnamon to sprinkle
Golden raisins (optional)

Omgosh, my mouth is watering! I know how good that tastes. There is nothing like Avena made this way. I know my Mom use to make another Corn Starch hot cereal when I was very little. Oh, Miss Rachel, this recipe reminded me of my mother. She started her recipe like yours but would finish it by adding evaporated milk. Either carnation or pet milk. But it was delicious on a cold morning. Thanks for sharing and for bringing back the memories. God bless you always❤️🙏

My beautiful mommy, Rest her soul used to make it. It would smell divine. My daughter asked me not too long ago if I knew how to make it. I said no. But now I do thanks to you. What I do remember is my mom used to use what was called "Pet Milk", very thick, very rich...soooo good. She also used to make something similar using rice instead of oats.

We've had some very cold & windy days here in the Texas panhandle this year,, & this should help cheer things right up!! think I will try this today with dried apple. Thank you for the video and recipe! I love oatmeal in any form. When I make oatmeal porridge, I love to add cinnamon as well, but I add in loads of raisins, toasted nuts, diced apple bites and a drizzle of maple syrup. Of course I have milk and some brown sugar too. No matter how we fixed it, oatmeal was always a favorite warming meal. Your oatmeal sounds divine. Many years ago my best friend made a 'celebration' thing in a big pot. I went to visit her after she left an extremely abusive relationship. It was oatmeal that had been simmering ALL DAY, in milk, cream and spices, she added vanilla, and some toasted almonds, raisins and it was just like hot ice cream! Ohhmy I have never seen anything similar or like it until now. It was better than any ice cream I have ever had, and didn't even taste like oatmeal. What a celebration! I think I will make this in her honor!
