I dont get why so many people are acting like this is another hollywood film were a 90 pound woman effortlessly beats men thrice her size. Shes about 5'11” and athletic, and she was half dead by the time the fight ended. Plus, throughout the film she always avoided fights if she could and used sneak attacks, the environment/ whatever she could get her hands on to hurt her opponents.
@TheMartialActor3 жыл бұрын
It’s true - this movie is very much unlike limits other Hollywood action films because it leans so much into realism, which is awesome

Also if people wanna rag on this fight scene because it's unrealistic for a woman to get the better of a man in a fight because of physical differences then they should have an issue with like 95% of fights scenes in films, because we often see male characters do things that NO man in real life would be capable of doing.
@VeerleTakino3 жыл бұрын
I like the realism of the fights in this movie, how she uses throws and knees and point strikes instead of standing and trying to box someone, and that they show that yeah, in a "real" fight, you're not getting through it unscathed

The realism is top notch, can’t agree more

I’ve seen people complain that this fight is unrealistic because Charlize is much smaller than the guy’s she fights. I never got this. She’s about the same height as some of them and uses weapons against them.

There is a video of Charlize and the stunt men training for three months just for that one 10 min scene, she did everything in that fight. If you haven't watched the movie yet, watch it. The plot twists after twist after twist, and the action, and the 80's music,makes this a 5 star movie, I want to see more movies to follow up, they want a female 007, they just did it....

Now this is a woman who deserves to survive and win against the bad guys. She did'nt win this one because she was superior to them, after all the bad guys had the same or similar training as she had. She won, because she did'nt stop to fight, she went through the pain and the punishment, she took advantage of her surroundings and used the stairs and stuff laying around as a weapon.

It is good that Charlize still retains her fighting skills from Aeon flux after I saw this. Though it wasn't a good adapted film, i love her style in it. I showed my cinematography teacher this clip when it wasn't release yet and he was impressed with the one shot combat

Worth noting that Charlize Theron's fighting technique incorporated being at close range so that she could get in blows to the body using her knees, leverage her attackers movement and bodyweight to execute throws, etc. She used the environment and weaponized it (walls, tables, stairs), and overall used a variety of tools (apart from relying solely on striking power, which I'd rather use to stun/distract an assailant until I can use a tool take them out as I am a smaller person) to get the job done.

This scene is famously made of 40 shots. Whenever no character is on the screen, whenever the camera pans really fast, whenever an object comes really close to the camera or whenever the entire screen is off focus, there's probably a cut. It's crazy how far technology has gone in the matter of stitching together theses kind of shots. You can reframe, interpolate, compose dynamically, add all kind of effects to hide imperfections. And sometimes, you can simply show a knife and jumpcut to a kind of similar point of view and nobody will care. (4:47) Also, I believe this fight benefits from the intro scene of the movie when we see how bruised and wounded the heroine's body is going to be as a result.

@@TheMartialActor Mid 2010s, the CGI fatigue lead to a great come back of practical effects. The clearest result of that is, of course, Fury road but even before that, we got the Raid, the Winter soldier, Ghost protocol, John Wick and Edge of tomorrow. She does have a stunt double, like every actor. There are 2 parts they were used. When she jumps of the balcony it's her with harness (Impressive) but the stunt double is the one who lands the jump on the lower balcony. The stair scene is actually 2 cuts. Charlize stunt double is when she rolls down stair slamming her back unto the wall, just for that very short fall. She has spoken about it. Those are the only two times a stunt double was used. If you watch close you can see the cut in the stair scene. I'm a massive Charlize Theron fan, so only clearing that up. Definitely not hating. It's still FECKING amazing. Unlike Tom Cruise who pretends to do all his stunts! Latest was him saying he flew the jet, when you clearly see he is in the back seat of the cockpit. No way he would have been allowed to fly it anyway. Angelina Jolie pretend stunts as well. Real stunts is GINA CARANO as well, she is badass in HAYWIRE, apart from Director Soderling Dubbing her whole voice. Only fans would notice it wasn't her voice.
