Actually, the way we are told in germany, and the way my mum remembers it, they had a slip-up during an interview. One politician tried to say something along the lines of "from a certain point in the future, we will allow certain people with politic prevalence to cross the border through the wall and disassemble the kill squad because all will be handled from both sides now on." Like... They wanted to control the border from both sides so noone crosses over and SOME people could pass through. He had a slip-up, said something about "and the berlin wall will be no longer used", and a reporter asked him "When will this start?". He then responded, looking into his papers, "Uhm, as far as I know, uhm, as of now". Which started a hell of a lot of people grabbing their stuff and their family, they ran to the border, NO GUARD KNEW what the hell they were supposed to do (because they had no new orders), and because half the city was at the border, they did not just open fire, but stood down and watched, as the wall fell. It just happened. Don't see how you can actually plan this, but you COULD write a Illuminati-style conspiracy-theory how the slip up was intentional, I guess.

The fall of the Berlin wall was indeed more of a spontaneous event. It was supposed to be a much better controlled process at a later date, but basically it was a botched press conference on the evening of the 9th November '89 that led to immediate chaos and the literal fall of parts of the wall. And since it happened in the late evening / early nighttime the scenes in the movie definitely do not show the fall itself but maybe one of the larger demonstrations that happened around that time. Many people _expected_ the wall to fall sooner rather than later since it metaphorically was already in the process of crumbling.

14:03 Thank you for using the PSH "Tommy...... How's the peeping?" I miss PSH and that line is just expertly delivered by him. Every time you use it in the after credits or whatever, I feel a little happier. We use the cadence for lots of things at work, like, "Travis...... how's the shipping?" or "Miguel.... have some coffee." It is super versatile.

YES FINALLY. I was so excited to see that this was finally done! It may be one of my fav. films from 2017, but you certainly made a lot of good points here. Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing out the CONSTANT smoking in this film (aka smoke porn) and for making references to Snow White and the Huntsman, Split, and The Mummy like I hoped you would. All you were missing was IT because of Bill Skarsgaard's appearance. And yes, the true winners of the game were Marlboro and Jack Daniels for all the money they got from product placement. Also also, "Cinema Sins makes reference to Split while Everything Wrong with The VVitch hangs out on the side of my screen" cliché.

So I don't consider it a sin for them to stand on the platform and simply talk. Must have been a usual thing since the late 60s in Berlin.

This was one of the most cringe inducing movies I've seen in years. At least in The Bourne movies, they attempted to use some level of common sense, as he would avoid confrontation as much as possible. However, in this she fights everything she sees, she makes no attempt to avoid danger, because... feminism or whatever. All that horseshit aside, the story itself was awful, no likable characters, and cliches out to wazoo.

No, it depends on the strength and ability of the two men. Do you really think a UFC fighter is going to have a hard time taking on two 120 pound guys that have never had a fight in their lives?
@TheFakeRussian6 жыл бұрын
The Count of Monte Disco : (and others) Its not about how skilled you are it's about how much you can take. Some highly skilled and very adept guys, (and women for that matter), have a "glass jaw" and a punch from an amateur would put them down in a heartbeat. Yet some not very good fighters who lack skill can beat people down no issues because they can take the hit and keep on coming back, as Rocky said: {Quote} But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! {End Quote}

Also, Personally believe this should be SINNED with EVERY movie that tries to re-create the 80's. Why are there NEVER any time accurate hair cuts. Every character either looks like they went to the mall sometime after 2001 to get a haircut before filming OR they have a ridiculous punk-style mohawk OR they just decided for some reason that everyone from the 80's had a shaved head. So far the ONLY TV or Movie that has done this right is the "That 70's Show". Trust me, I was a teenager in the 80's, I know what an authentic 80's haircut would look like (AND from the looks of it - at least some of the cast should flippin know as well)...dang it!! It's rather amusing, given the number of highly unbelievable fight scenes/extreme mismatches of physical proportions already rife in action movies that the suspension of belief stops for most folks when the lightweight is a woman instead of, say, James Bond. This movie was not without its faults, but I love Boutella and Theron and am an admitted sucker for the whole "80's and neon aesthetic". It's also not even close to the most unrealistic action movie.
@Splinturcell6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's so annoying how personally people take it lol.
@ryanbarker52176 жыл бұрын
suspension of disbelief doesn't stop because it's a woman, it just get strained another notch. it has to do with strength and muscle/body mass. it's why coed boxing and MMA doesn't exist. so, when your movie's tone leans towards a bourne movie with a quasi-realism to it, it's difficult to buy into a woman we see in a bath isn't exactly rippling with muscle, swills alcohol and chain smokes get beaten by half a dozen thugs that tyson couldn't walk away from and pretend it's not laughable. were it a 'kingsmen' or 'fast and furious' movie it'd be no problem, that's over-the-top silly. i did like the fight choreography, and *every* action movie is unrealistic to some degree. it's all pretend, of course, but the tone sets our expectations and we're supposed to be good little cucks and SJWs about it when it just doesn't step a little over the line, but dives headfirst over it? the fights were in the realm of 'john wick' nonsense, yet it was trying to be otherwise straight up in its narrative. i lived through the 80's. that 'neon aesthetic' is painful thing to watch, but to each their own. as a movie it's just not a good spy movie and the characters were weak, which isn't good in a movie that's boring, confusing and predictable. if you caught the last bourne movie, and what a travesty of entertainment that was, i equate my disappointment with this turkey to that. i was hoping for much more than stylistic fight scenes, and we'll get an equally vacant sequel. i love theron, too, and that's literally the only reason worth watching a sequel, but i hope she gets to actually act in the next one.

@flitsertheo4 жыл бұрын
If they were speaking or understanding English or any other "western" languages they would have kept it hidden. Lulling the foreigners into thinking they could speak freely without being understood in their own language. Which could allow the border guards - often Stasi agents - to obtain some interesting information.
@Moritz190819804 жыл бұрын
@@flitsertheo Yeah, maybe in a semi-fictional story but not in reality. Believe me: The vast majority of them couldn't speak or let alone understand English. They learned RUSSIAN as a second language. Doesn't mean NOBODY in the GDR could speak English. But 100% not a border guard. I dealt with so many of them in my life. Everytime I had to leave the city in fact, because - as you might know - West-Berlin was basically a FRG enclave in the GDR.
