Atomic mass and atomic weight are the same thing--they are both the average mass of atoms of an element. It's mass number (not to be confused with atomic mass) that is the mass of a specific isotope.

Mr. DeWitt you are literally my favorite educator on youtube. You have saved my butt countless of times. I'm currently in 10th grade and my chemistry teacher is really rude and mean so I'm pretty scared to ask her question, and even when I do she either won't answer them or answers them inadequately. TYLER!!!! This is so crazy that I'm finding you here talking about isotopes! I'm doing this course with Creative Live with my friend James Wedmore on KZbin Marketing and I'm doing a keyword search on KZbin for "abundance" because I'm coming out with a book on money in the fall...and I saw that relative abundance was a common searched term. And now here you are talking about it - but in a totally different way than I thought. Crazy freaking small world!

I would appreciate your assistance in solving this. Silicon has three stable isotopes, 28Si, 29Si and 30Si. The heaviest isotope has a percentage abundance of 3.1%. using the relative atomic mass from the periodic table, calculate the percentage abundance of the lightest isotope to one decimal place

If the question, for example asks, "A sample of Chlorine gas the same atomic mass stated on the periodic table. There are two known stable isotopes of Chlorine: Chlorine-35 and Chlorine-37. Calculate the percent abundance of each isotopes in the sample." How would I answer this question if it doesn't tell the atomic mass of Chlorine 35 and 37?

I love your videos! Your method makes them so easy to understand. This is one that my professor gave me, but i am confuse. How can i use your method in this problem. Silver exists as two isotopes with atomic masses of 106.9041 and 108.9047 amu. Determine the average atomic mass for silver if the % abundance for each isotope is 51.82 and 48.18%, respectively. Can you show me with your method please? I would really appreciate it if you are available.
