Atomic scientists set the "Doomsday Clock" closer to midnight than ever before on January 24, 2023, citing threats of nuclear war, disease and climate volatility. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was said to be one of the largest contributing factors of putting humanity at risk. The symbolic timepiece, created in 1947 by atomic scientists including Albert Einstein, illustrates how close humanity is to the end of the world. Previously set at 100 seconds to midnight in January 2020, the clock has now been cut by 10 seconds.

It is totally arbitrary and the only way to make sense out of it is comparing the current time to what they previously set the clock to. On their website you can see a timeline of what time they set the clock during the years (from 1947 to today). A copy is also mantained on wikipedia. To give an idea, the maximum they set it was 2 minutes to midnight during the cold war, and 17 minutes at the end of it. So you know that they think that the risk of nuclear annihilation and/or climate catastrophe is higher now (1.5 minutes) than during the cold war (2 minutes).

Rather, these countries VOLUNTARILY join NATO. It is really Putin's disastrous foreign policies that pushes Eastern European countries to join NATO. NATO does not have to convince anyone of their benefits. Russia does that all by herself. Long time neutral countries like Sweden and Finland are joining NATO primarily due to Russian aggressions against Europe. Stop defending the aggressor and blaming the victims that are standing up against the aggressor. And USA has? And Russia hasn't interfered with Ukrainian politics? No! It certainly is NOT true. The US gets treated like everybody else. Clock moves 5 minutes closer because of these events: The involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War intensifies, the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 takes place, and the Six-Day War occurs in 1967. -3 minutes for : India tests a nuclear device (Smiling Buddha), and SALT II talks stall. Both the United States and the Soviet Union modernize multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs). (−30 s)United States President Donald Trump's comments over nuclear weapons, the threat of a renewed arms race between the U.S. and Russia.

@@Sone418 they are already using missiles. Surely you must of heard the countless airstrikes they've been dropping on each other. It's no different from the Vietnam war, Korean war, gulf war..... Iraq war. But like you said they are waiting on Russia to make the first move. Because they don't want total fallout, nobody does....Not even Russia themselves they just won't admit it.
