This is my 19/20 BC set up, same boots and skis; for the $$$ this better be HUGE upgrade from my BD Justice with Maker Dukes for the Backcountry. I will be using the old Dynafit Radical Boots and not the Atomic Backland Boots (maybe I will upgrade to those for the 20/21 season).

Can you ski in techmode? My Dynafit TLT does not have that alpine 'lip' in the front. So is it possible to ski downhill while using the tech pins in the front?

What about the crampons? How do you mount them?

I am really down for my first pair of tour ski's/bindings for mainly cruising downhill but also walking uphill. However my boots (normally light enough for hikes) don't have these pin holes. Do my boots need pin holes for walking uphill with these bindings?

Yes, there is no way to engage the bindings without tech fittings. If you aren't ready to make the jump to touring boots check out frame bindings.

No! He's using the atomic hawx ultra 130 xdt. The backland boot doesn't have one of the necessary certifications.

They slide in at the toe piece like on a Dynafit setup. You have to buy the Atomic/Salomon crampon as the ones used on a normal pin setup won’t fit (there has to be a big gap where the bar slides across because of the toe plate). shop.atomic.com/en/products/crampon-shift-120-ad0340.html

It is wrong the description. You have to pull completely to lock otherwise you will miss the ski... And for skiing down you lock it down.. Check out this videos before showing people.

Not superior to Fritschi Tecton 12. The atomic and the Solomon are identical same parent company.

the tecton is not mnc so it still requires boots with tech inserts. the shift can be used with traditional alpine boots without tech inserts. shift also has a max din of 13. weight is essentially the same and shift is $100 less. Shift is superior

I am sure that the Fritschi Tecton requires you to ski downhill while locked into the pins? The shift only used the pics for going uphill therefore is far superior

@@matthewburr5303 If you had used both the differences would become apparent to you. At introduction both MSRP were Circa $650 u.s. dollars. M NC shift manufacturers advertised price then dropped $100 then fritschi tecton 12 dropped their price an additional $191 down to $359 u.s. dollars. The fritschi tecton 12 is also lighter. The shift MNC is subject to icing in tour mode. While in touring mode the shift MNC may also spontaneously deploy the ski brake. This design flaw is mentioned in the comments sections. Further the fritsche tecton 12 if desired can free the heel without removing the ski while in ski mode.There are common Alpine touring boots which are not MNC compatible with the shift binding. That is you could tour but you could not ski back down on the shift. The shift MNC binding should be cheaper, lighter, easier to use and better than the fritsche tecton 12 binding. It isn't.
