Most of these connections are rather general, but several are interesting----but I’m now a subscriber because this guy’s a movie historian and lover, as am I, always looking for connections between movies/genres/actors/writers, which actors crossed over into this or that genre, etc. This kind of video’s a real treat just for the nostalgia and making me remember general stuff about these movies that I may have forgotten. (I’m also an old fart who generally dislikes most films made since the superhero crap began about two decades ago and has been destroying Hollywood, and the ‘70s and early ‘80s--before the sharp rise in mall cineplex-style cookie-cutter blockbusters and sequels beginning around ‘84--is one of my golden eras).

Did you know Pulp Fiction and It's Pat! had the same writer? You can see a lot of parallels. Nobody knows Pat's gender identity, just like with The Gimp.

Most movies today seem to have writers with hive mind mentality. The common ground is to destroy the franchise and blame the audience for what sold well before.

I definitely enjoyed the breakdown of the parallels between these two! I'm with you; it is always fascinating to see a writer or director go from one thing to another that is just.... in a completely different world, tonally or genre-wise, and seeing how their own experience and influences shape that thing subconsciously or no. If you wanna toss up any more of these types of videos in the future, I'm definitely game for it!

There's so much to love about STRANGE BREW. It really holds up. So many good lines and gags. And so strange that it's co-written by the MIRACLE MILE/ CHERRY 2000 guy, Steve De Jarnatt!

Also, when two actors from one movie are in another movie or TV series, it means both movies exist in the same universe. For example, CAR 54 and the MUNSTERS is the cops turning into monsters. SKIDOO and BATMAN are in the same universe. There were probably supporting actors in a Three Stooges short that were also in the same historical drama. This doesn't count with a director's stock players, like DeNiro and Pesci.

The same writer wrote the novels "Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Planet of the Apes".
@atomicabe Жыл бұрын
oh, that's right! I wonder what themes or details they have in common.
@toweypat Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen "Bridge" but isn't it about people who are captured and treated like animals? And at the end, a monument is destroyed, kind of like the Statue of Liberty is.

I disagree with your decisions for example I’d say FUKES is analogous to Whitewood; FUKES he recruits Buttermaker a la Mccready. He poses the decisive action that ostensibly puts the main protagonist of the story in charge sets, them on their quest etc.

I like this theory a lot. I hadn't thought to include Buttermaker or Councilman Whitewood, but what you're saying rings true.
