Taken off the album "Koloss"
Directed by: Owe Lingvall / Village Road Film
This song title is an excerpt from a quote by philosopher, physician, organist, and 1952 Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer: "Revenge... is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion."

MESHUGGAH is:
Jens Kidman - Vocals
Fredrik Thordendal - Guitars
Tomas Haake - Drums
Mårten Hagström - Guitars
Dick Lövgren - Bass
Lyrics:
Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion
Tremors, reverberating
Frequency of doom
How strongly the violent thoughts of vengeance echo
Setting in motion the strings of hate.
Shudder
Shudder
Vibrate
This is the soundtrack to our hostility
To our malicious intent
To the pointless grudge forever held
The callow dream
The dismal wish to harm
Animate now
The twisted sounds of our disdain
Our rage
The notations to our contempt
To unforgiveness and loathing
A sonic declaration of spite and resentment
Its resonance grinding to dust our souls
The twine of revenge tightly strung.
Its sub harmonics, the undoing of all
So enticing
The retaliation - chords of man
The all-deafening - Oscillation of the damned
Let forth the hateful, the murderous
Let their malignant prayers resound
The reverberant, odious request
The wish of death abound
So enticing
The retaliation - chords of man
The all-deafening - Oscillation of the damned

Here's the truth dudes: there really aren't any bands like them. Very good bands like Meshuggah only come up once in a blue moon, and they're good because they do their own thing, and don't really sound like anyone else. This band is very heavy and technical, but they're not obsessed with being heavy, nor too mathy, fast, or random. They just make stuff that sounds fucking cool. Incredible musicians.
@mikescanlan4653
@mikescanlan4653 9 жыл бұрын
There is nothing technical about what they do. I'm sorry. I learned songs my first year of guitar more technical than Meshuggah songs. This band is a rythmic one, not focused on lead skill and thats fine. I love Meshuggah. But please don't think they're in anyway technical lol
@ChipmunkAsylum
@ChipmunkAsylum 9 жыл бұрын
Nothing technical? You mean to tell me that you could grab a couple of hacks on their instruments and play Future Breed Machine together no problem? I'd say they're pretty technically sound.
@mikescanlan4653
@mikescanlan4653 9 жыл бұрын
ChipmunkAsylum Since I've been playing music for awhile that revolves around odd meters and poly rhythms and so on and the other "hacks" where also as familiar with it, I would say we could figure it out with ease. It may seem difficult if you're not used to it, but eventually you get used to 9/16 and 3/2s as if they were 4/4. The other bits would take practicing, but thats with any song played by an entire band. Since most of Meshuggah's songs tend to revolve around one riff, once you have that down you are 85% done with the song. The rest would just be building up the stamina of playing that same thing repetitively desperately waiting for something to change in the song. I love meshuggah, but I personally can't stand playing repetition. That would be the hardest part, because it's so easy. Nothing against Meshuggah, the band doesent get together to write difficult music.

Mike Scanlan there is nothing technical?....so for a man that was at the time playing the drums for at least 20 years having to take 3 months just to learn one song (Bleed) isn't a technical thing to do?

Listening to Meshuggah leaves the vocals at top priority for liking them. People can't seem to listen them without liking that part first. Always hate/like. A number of bands have more or less a casual singing type. Which means the vocals don't have people divided but the music is, and the singing is left with Neutral or Meh opinions Jens though, really excels when the music is setup for him. When you don't really need or want a lot of vocal melody is the best time for him to be singing.

yes. I believe this is totally true. something about the world hurts a bright person with a big heart and can lead them to have a need to aggressively decouple from those feelings in a non violent manner. When it can be done with something as intellectually interesting and as stimulating as Meshuggah, there is a bond there that nothing else will fill. I await the new album with faith. If at first I dont click with some songs, I am sure I will in time. That's the way new good stuff is. That's what it takes to GROW into something better or further in to the advancing complexity of eventual decay.

I see a lot of people complaining about the vocals in the comments. Well, I think growling/dirty vocals aren't something that many people will find immediately palatable. For a first time listener, it probably sounds like nothing you've heard before. A lot complain because they can't understand the lyrics, which I can understand. But what I find weird about that is most people listen to rap music these days, and to me many rappers are indecipherable, not to mention use a lot of slang that isn't even a part of the English language.

Like most Meshuggah songs, there are odd metre riffs over a very clear 4/4 foundation driven by the constant quarter note pulse that haake keeps on his hats / cymbals. The snare is usually (most songs) on the expected 3 of each bar. You can head bang to the quarter note or half not pulse and you will almost always line back up with the riffs. The beauty of this band's compositions, and one of the reasons why I like them so much, is that they think of time and riffs on a larger scale i.e. 8, 16, and 32 bars before things loop back around. They also manage to do this and make it seem complicated while making it sound natural and organic due to Haake keeping everything anchored with his quarter note pulse reference. Pure compositional genius, which finds itself grounded in very fundamental and basic key concepts. Hail Meshuggah

You know, everyone does. We can't stop the time, but we can save (or record) a time. For now they show us eight great albums (and some other extras too. FOR-EVER.

CoonBearDog true but they aren't as enthusiastic. I wish people still bought records so they didn't have to tour so much and they could recharge.

I can't stop listening to this song, one of the best metal songs ever written. The groove is insane.

The last part of the drum solo is so tricky, you have to make the alto Tom vibrate all the time at the same time when you hit the snare you should do it with both sticks, don't forget to match the right hand with bass drum, and of course every crash accent is played with double crashes, +the muted crash on the pauses, good luck
