I have a theory regarding Mr D. Head's name... As you pointed out, some of these email scammers struggle to come up with realistic names. Over the course of a few years watching telephone scambaiters on YT, I've noticed that a scammer might sometimes introduce themself with a fake name which sounds like a joke. In particular I'm thinking of a scammer who, during a phone call, gave his name as Mike Hawk. Now, this was originally a comical name which has often been used by scambaiters, and presumably the scammer (for whom English was a second language) had thought "Hmm, that sounds like a plausible Western name, I'll use that next time". So maybe, long ago, some prankster replied to one of these scam emails, signing off as D*** Head - and the scammer stole the name?
@oldbatwit5102 Жыл бұрын
They seem to use a lot of famous peoples' names too eg. movie stars.
@vulpesinculta3238 Жыл бұрын
Alternative theory: it's another way to filter out people who are likely to catch on to the fact that it's a scam. If someone's oblivious enough to overlook the fact that their 'contact' is called D. Head, then they're also likely to overlook the other plot holes in the scam and fall for it in the end.
