Many years ago my grandparents would care for me a couple of evenings a week while my parents worked. My retired grandad would cook a full roast dinner every Wednesday just so I could have bubble and squeak on Thursdays. No chilli but it was cooked in home made mucky dripping. Served with left over cold meat. Grandad called it "fry up". I adored it. We'd eat it while watching Thunderbirds on the telly and even now 40+ years later if I see anything related to Thunderbirds I can almost taste Grandads fry up tea.

This was quite unexpected, and a LOT of content! It amazes me that you managed to put all of this into one video, when most channels would put it into at least 4 separate videos. I hope that the rest of the year treats you well, and that your channel continues to see growth and success :)

You know what, last week (on Friday) when you posted the "Making Fish and Chips" I decided, you know what why not make my own chips for once. So I did, as little sort of kitchen experiment. It wasn't perfect, and I had potatoes that were too small. But I chopped and boiled them anyway. And, they turned out a real winner. Some of the best chips I have tasted if I say so myself. So, the reason I bring this up, was because if I hadn't stumbled upon Atomic Shrimp a good few months ago, and if I didn't subscribe about 1 month ago. I wouldn't have watched that video and I wouldn't have made those chips last week. And well, making those chips was rather fun (and tasty!) And the homemade feeling of the videos is comforting in some sort of way. I just like this channel and the people around it. So, good luck with KZbin and I'll be here for at least a little more of your journey.

Besides, if you just fry it on a pan with a bit of oil mixed with butter, it won't get as soggy, It will still soak up most of the oil and butter, but not as much as deep-fried. I just truly believe atomic shrimp channel is offering something found nowhere else on KZbin. It feels like old internet. It's so casual and honest and anti 'spirit of the day' which flavours almost everything else on the sight. Thanks for being you shrimp. Always enjoy the vids and have been watching them more and more lately. Always a great comfort

Best wishes to you sir! You're an especially bright person, and I know you wouldn't do something like this without thinking it through, best of luck to you in the future. You've been a nice break from the stress in life so many times throughout the time I've followed you. Thank you and I hope your day is going well :]

I agree. Sometimes it not so much about the channel content as the personality of the presenter.

Internal monologue starting at 5:33 "Looks like he's about to slice the pepper sideways to remove the seeds. Smart. But, wow, a whole pepper. Oh wait no he's realized that that's way too much pepper. He's going to slice off just a little off the end and use that. Okay, I guess he wants it a little spicy. ...Um... okay..." (Not intended to be mean - just a little friendly ribbing from someone who can't take that much heat)

Yeah, I was going to slit it and scrape out the seeds, then I thought what the heck - and put the whole lot in. It wasn't that hot. I think these chillies are defective.

For what it's worth, mate, what DREW me towards following your channel, besides the DIVERSE content (JOLLY GOOD on that!), was what you were doing regarding the closed Eco-systems... LOVE that stuff.✨🤗✨ I sure hope you plan on doing more of it. CHEERS!😷

In Italy we call those mushrooms mazze di tamburo (drum mallets). Once I foraged a few of those, coated them with breadcrumbs and then fried them. Sometimes I still think about them.

Mr Shrimp, you help me when I am anxiety ridden, going through trauma flashbacks, you help calm me, educate me, I’ve learned so many interesting new things from your videos and Babatunde’s videos. You deserve all the success and I’m so grateful to you from the bottom of my heart

So the Stink Horn jelly didn't kill you, but stabbing yourself in the eye with your knife didn't help either 🧐 Beautiful scene in the woods there with the rain and sunlight. Good luck with the 'new' day job. I will sit and watch the rest of the video now 👍

This is wonderful news Mike! Your channel has had me foraging (I've cultivated chickweed!), trying new foods, watching how people live in Nigeria (Hi Babatunde!), cooking (I didn't enjoy it BAS - Before Atomic Shrimp) and now I'm building a kit for going out on adventures (foraging, cooking etc) & much more! You are really inspiring & my husband is sick to death of hearing about you! Please don't change - you are brilliant the way you are!

Back in the 1950’s when I was a small boy I used to go to my grandmas pretty frequently, she only lived 2 doors away. She made bubble and squeak and I’ve got to say that I’ve never tasted anyone else’s that remotely compared with hers. I don’t know exactly what she made it with, but a fair guess would probably be just mashed potato and cooked cabbage. Butter, eggs, flour? possibly, but you’re absolutely spot on when you said bacon fat. It was always served with rashers of fried bacon and the B&S was always fried up when the bacon was removed. I read somewhere a few years ago that in some analysis of modern veg. there was only about 20% of the flavour found in today’s cabbage compared to that from 50 or so years ago. How could they do that? Anyway, perhaps that, and the fact that properly cured bacon is probably almost unobtainable these days might account for that magic memory. She died in 1958 when I was 10 so I was never able to enquire of her just what made her bubble and squeak so delicious. Maybe it’s merely the memory of a childhood which seems unrepeatable to the kids of today which casts a golden glow over many of those innocent memories lost in “Ancient Sunlight” as Henry Williamson called it.
