These knee injuries where the skiers mass is clearly on the heels is creating a scenario where the toepiece is loaded but won't release. Petra Vlhova had this happen to her last year in a technical race, and she is still rehabilitating, and not skiing. Binding manufacturers please design a binding toepiece that has SEPERATE ADJUSTMENTS for lateral adjustments on the toe and a separate adjustment for upward release on the toe. My ski boots are racing plug boots that fit like a glove. However. I leave just enough room for subtle ankle movement. This also makes the knee have some give. Back in the old days where downhillers used leather boots, there was quite a lot of give and ankle injuries were common and knee injuries were rare. I love the control of my plug boots, but we have to use a brand new engineering mindset and design new safety features to both ski boots and bindings, with the human knee in mind.

Racers use insanely high DINs on their bindings to stop pre-release, so an upward release on the toe piece would have a limited to zero ability to prevent knee injuries, especially when the bend of the ski is forcing the boot into the toe piece & causing a large amount of friction.

Two reasons that cause these incidents and injuries: 1.) rough course preparation - which is entertaining to watch, because it looks spectacular, but leads to injuries in particular knee ligaments ruptures 2.) Compare the courses with those of motorcycle races and you see that corner speeds are similar, but that there is no room for errors on a downhill course. If you lose control, you hit the fence at high speed and almost perpendicular. Chances are high that injuries are a consequence. This is 'road racing on the Isle of Man' style. ☝🏾🧐

not sure if i understand what you are getting at
@dacat817113 күн бұрын
@genripper-b8q My point is that downhill skiing is dangerous for two reasons: • One reason is that organisers set up challenging - bumpy - downhill courses, to make it entertaining for the spectators to watch. • Safety measures are not up to date i.e. safety fences are installed too close to the course. If ski racers lose control, they hit the safety fences at high speeds and usually suffer injuries. In this season too many racers got heavily injured.

Camera drones are awful for this sport. With drone footage, the sensation of speed is lost. The heights of the jumps are lost. Drones are great for some sports, but definitely not all sports. And the constant whining noise reminds me of the same nonsense you hear when woke kids at Stop Oil rallies start talking.

The snow seems to have melted then refrozen on top, which makes grip extremely difficult on this very demanding and dangerous track where the snow must be impeccable to avoid having to witness crashes unfortunately.The organizers should cancel the descent because it 's really too dangerous on this type of snow where the ski has no grip.⚠
@peterritchie299014 күн бұрын
Perhaps you are unaware that in some areas this track is sprayed with water to make an ice. The harder the snow the better.
@MrMrMckinley12 күн бұрын
Lol, the icier the better, you don’t want ruts forming/want to keep the track as equal for all competitors as possible. They were adding salt throughout the race to keep it frozen (seems counter intuitive but the salt melts it so it can refreeze more solid.) Racing skis are tuned at a sharper edge angle than your typical ski. The fact is this is the most dangerous race at the very top of competitive skiing. No one forcing them, they want to.
