Whilst it appears this video is aimed primarily at the KZbinr crowd, there are a few points that I feel compelled to comment on as an Engineer, especially since a lot of users will take this video as gospel and potentially spread misinformation. HLG stands for Hybrid Log Gamma - it is ALSO a Log profile. Grading HLG is no different to grading other Log profiles - the key differentiator is that the first portion of HLG has a similar curve to Rec.709 Scene - hence why it appears "easier" to grade from the start. In reality the workflow he has shown here would be more or less the same for other Log profiles, and no more efficient. Instead, like with other LOG profiles, if you have a proper technical transform, you will not need to fiddle around with curves and whatnot, except to correct things like poor exposure/white balance that are the result of incorrect/guesstimated settings on the source recording. Please DO NOT download Random HLG LUTs off the internet. You will find plenty of random KZbin snake oil salespeople telling you to get their latest "cinematic" looks. If you truly wish to start from a clean base, instead look for HLG transforms that perform a true technical transform from a HLG/Rec.2020 Color Space and Gamma to a Rec.709 Scene Color Space and Gamma. By moving from Rec. 2020 to Rec. 709, your color gamut WILL be mapped to fit in the smaller space - you will NOT maintain the same colors, unless you wish to stick to a Rec.2020 color space. If you are delivering in HDR, then make sure you don't make the mistake of converting down to a Rec.709 timeline to only then deliver as a Rec.2020 output. As a footnote, BT.2408 recommends 18% Middle Gray at 26 cd/m2 (~ 38% IRE on a standard Waveform) and 90% IRE at 179 cd/m2. Keep in mind this could potentially change as the HDR specs are still being further improved.

What conversion lut are you recommending? There are no official sony hlg to rec lut. I use leeming lut but that requires ettr

@@petrub27 I don't use LUTs - that's like adding bicycle wheels on a sports car. I use a proper technical transform: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWaWfIuNjMmmps0

@@xtremestuff don't want to offend yoy but I can't believe that the only option to transform hlg in rec is to buy your technical transform. I am happy with what davinci offers.

@@petrub27 Never claimed it was the only solution. If a LUT works for you, go for it. But a LUT also has it's limitations. Resolve also has HLG Scene input in RCM. But if you're looking to use HLG in ACES or follow the BT.2408 recommendation, then you will be hard pressed to find a working technical transform. I've developed a solution to cater for that - both for ACES and output to other color spaces.

I'm shooting KZbin content in ProRes RAW using the Ninja V. I agree with the overall point - it's easier, and it's way more forgiving - hereby making creating quick content actually way easier in the long run. Yes, it burns more data, it's a heavier setup, etc. etc. But it actually saves SO MUCH time in post just because of how easy it is to correct, and it's quicker to shoot because you don't have to double and triple check every single setting.

i use hlog for skin tones because the extra color information renders nicely, amd is easy to convert, color n contrast with log which colors tend to be finicky

I have Atomos Shinobi Is there any help in transferring files of 3D luts Or about of Copy files of cube To SD Card ,Or change the SD Card format to exFat. If the company made an educational video on KZbin, this is something that is recommended to many customers. Especially since the user guide is not sufficient for clarification
