Did I understand correctly that if you want to use any monitoring feature like peaking, zebras etc you have to quit the control mode? So you cannot have for example peaking and start/stop record at the same time? Thanks for the great review!
@RossBarnett025 ай бұрын
At the moment, you'll need to turn on peaking (or zebras or waveforms etc.) THEN go into camera control mode and continue as normal. But if you want to make any adjustments while recording (say toggle on/off focus peaking or zoom in while recording) you cannot. When switching to the monitor controls, it'll just stop recording on your camera when switching over.. So, yes. You unfortunately heard that right. @@NC_Studio-NikosC For accurate colors when editing I think utilizing your scopes and watching content across multiple devices is the best route. Can someone help me understand the power delivery from the monitor? How is it that the battery from the monitor powers larger batteries (V-mount) or the camera all day? I think I am misunderstanding. I'm new to using a monitor and want to make sure I understand!
@RossBarnett024 ай бұрын
@@danielgray1874 In my setup, the V-mount battery powers the monitor. Then, the USB-C from the monitor powers the camera while utilizing camera control. Draining the V-mount battery. Or, you can put a NP-L battery on the back of the monitor - and with power delivery on the monitor battery will charge the camera.

If I change the iso, exposure or white balance from my camera controls the recording is going to stop?
@RossBarnett024 ай бұрын
nope! This "recording stopping" issue is currently only if you switch back into Monitor controls to enable/disable things like waveforms, zoom, false color, or other controls within the monitor. @RossBarnett025 ай бұрын
@@filmowaniezprofitem I own the LH5P II. It’s similar to the LH7P. If you’re buying new the Shinobi II is 10x better and $50 cheaper.
@filmowaniezprofitem5 ай бұрын
@@RossBarnett02 okey, but how it is better? Also there is a bit more expensive BM II DS series, which is brighter, has af control for sony, and wireless control for few cameras.
@RossBarnett025 ай бұрын
@@filmowaniezprofitem personally I would say the Shinobi II is better because of the image quality, responsiveness to touch controls, responsiveness to camera inputs (how fast the correct values show on the monitor when changing values). Now, I’ll say if you need wireless camera control (say for a directors monitor when working with a car rig). If you need a loop HDMI out, or if you need touch to focus, then the Lh5PII is a better buy. For the way I use this setup though, the Shinobi II is a winner.

I've had no issue with Portkeys touch-to-focus. No reason to shade a great product just because you're hyped about something new, that to be accurate has yet to produce the most requested feature. Making a point to state how Portkeys followed through on a great product from inception, continuing to communicate with users and producing updates upon requests. Those watching KZbin creators post product videos need beware of how biased reviews can be considering their relationships with brands and pandering for free products and trending views.
@RossBarnett025 ай бұрын
I get it - and you've got a fair point. But I have zero relationship with Atomos or Portkeys. I don't receive free products and have bought everything on my own (LH5PII & LH7P + Shinobi II). BUT - Portkeys touch to focus is garbage. It's slow. It's delayed. And it doesn't show a box around what object you've touched. So i'll be the first to say it's hot trash (and i'll also be the first to say it's the only monitor on the market with touch to focus for mirrorless cameras). So, if you need touch to focus, get the portkeys! But, i'm not going to tell people that it's great just to pander to a brand I don't have a relationship with. I'm just a professional in the space talking about my experienced with the products.

I am also looking for a monitor that has touch to focus, instead of using my phone to do that task, and resulting in me never looking at the actual monitor but the smaller phone screen to make sure, that the focus square is where I need it to be.. And yes, the focus subject suare is essential. How else would you know if you actually are focusing on what you want. Partially it is sonys fault, they didnt have enough foresight to make a focus square only option for the HDMI out, vs the clean or fully CLUTTERED piece of crap that also crops the image.
@Chrstphr035 ай бұрын
@SilentD1 You can be confident in what you're focusing on by using your monitors' focus-peaking tool. Sony seeks to keep certain features proprietary, as to not incur on their licensing. The same practice responsible for stunting innovation across all major corporations.
@SilentD15 ай бұрын
@@Chrstphr03 hm thats why some random phone app like Monitor+ has the ability to show you the focus square. So not proprietary. And I do not trust focus peeking, cause I still do not know if it focuses on the right person on the screen, before its too late. Focus peeking only shows you when one person moves away from the other, and by then its too late. I really do not need anyone's advice as to how I should use my equipment. I just ask for the features, and they can chose to make them or ignore them. No one should dictate how to use them. Especially when they (you) have no idea how I work, and what I work with. Also. Camera manufacturers invented that focus square for a reason. Pretending that its not useful is absurd.
