It is interesting that you said abyss... Because Radiohead's and Thoms music can be either very inspiring or depressing depending on where your life and psyche is at... I love Radiohead, and to find out that my favorite musician, Neil Young was a huge influence on them makes total sense and respect them more because Neil is a god... We are all divine beings if we stay free of soul death that the systems of greed in society try to enforce upon us... But I used to think that melancholy music like Thom's is a bad thing because it can be like an abyss of wallowing in despair rather than seeing how much amazing wondrous possibilities there are all around us... When I heard "The Numbers" by Thom and Johnny outside in beautiful refreshing nature I knew that that was my new favorite song from them "The system is a lie, ONLY PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER..." like when I found the message of John Taylor Gatto! Never stop feeling fascination for learning...

A deep space, gulf or cavity of talent? I agree he is talented and creative, but perhaps not an abyss.

This video is wildly creative, but unfortunately the song itself is just another meandering, wailing vanity project for Thom. Thom wrote some truly mesmerizing songs in his early career, but that hasn't been repeated in a long time now. Nowadays Thom seems to think it's enough to close his eyes and moan along with a techno beat and call that creativity

Thom Yorke is the answer to "what would they be doing now?" For instance, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, etc. Him and only a few others survived the 90's. And most of my favorite musicians are dead. So stay alive Thom. And keep making great music so I don't have to ask, "I wonder what kind of music Thom Yorke or Radiohead would be playing today."

First time I heard this song was in a trip to Belgrade back in 2017. An amazing trip via train from Greece to Serbia. We were a group of friends consisting of 2 girls and 3 guys. We have met one year before at the university and I ll never forget this times neither this trip. We were having the best time of our lives so far at the best age of ours. I was in love with one of the girls but she was playing me. It was the last night of the trip and we were having some beers at a pub. I remember I was stoned and drunk and kinda sad because I kept wondering wth she keeps treating me like that. Everyone else was enjoying the conversation at that time but I had this fuzz inside my head, the kind of fuzz when you can hear everything and nothing at the same time and I couldn't let a single word out of me. Then suddenly this song came on and for a moment I found peace inside. I was sure this was Thom's voice but I knew this wasn't Radiohead and that made me wonder. I quickly rushed to the barman to ask the name of it and he told me and I was really happy with that. I never heard of Atoms For Peace till that time. The other 4 members of our company noticed me getting up quickly and asked me what happened. I told them I really liked the song and I wanted to know the name of it. They gave me that look like "we believe you but there's smth you ain't telling us" . They were fuvking right. I wanted so bad to kiss her and I knew this wasn't possible at that time so I had the need to run away. Despite that, I discovered atoms for peace and I couldn't be more thankful to that barman that night. But still, every time I listen to this song I will remember her and that amazing trip and how awesome I felt at that age of mine. I know we haven't talked in years and the last time we spoke I talked really bad to you because of your behaviour towards me at that times but I want you to know I will always have a crush on you no matter what because I ll never be the same person I was before your very eyes.

There's something that is being done rhythmically in the bass line that if I'm not mistaken is meant to imitate the passage of time as perceived by consciousness. I'm speaking specifically of the bum-bum-bummmmmm-baba pattern. With the clickety-clack rhythm steadily moving ahead in the background, it feels to me that the initial "bum-bum" portion is the attempt to live at a pace that seems comfortable, and the "bummmmmm" is the slowing down to look around, either to see what's slipping past or just to notice how far you've fallen behind. This leaves the "baba" portion wherein the consciousness makes an attempt to catch up. It's hopelessly doomed, however, because it soon returns to comfort and lags behind again. There's also something being done rhythymically in the way the vocals are delivered that suggest the relationship between time and consciousness. The rhythym is something like "ba-baaaaaa ba-ba-baaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaa" in the delivery of the verse and in the chorus it's "ba-Ba-BA BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaa" You can ignore my idiot notation for now, but the the staggering of consonants seem to suggest a winding down of ones own battery. As a counter to the bass, the beginning rapid and staccato, and the drawn out portions are sung with increased vibrato, even as they fade. This, to me, suggests that the attempt to "keep up" is thwarted by the loss of energy as with a battery steadily losing charge. One of the beautiful things about music is the way this is communicated within the music itself. The lyrics point you towards a way of interpreting the music, which bears out explicitly through abstraction in a direct and immediate manner what words can only say "at a distance". Good music and visual art does this kind of thing all of the time, and it saddens me that a lot of folks don't pick up on it, or at least in my case are so devoid of the necessary vocabulary only fumble about for the words. When I was in college, I studied art and philosophy. It bothered me when a painting was critiqued and words were used to describe what the painting was "doing" and some of the snottier students might say something like "Well if that's what's in the painting, why not just say THAT" (referring to the words used). They were ignoring (perhaps intentionally) that the words were emptier, signalling a chain of cognition that while capable of evoking much, were paler reflections of raw emotion (or subtle emotion, for that matter) that the words could never get across as succinctly or powerfully. In addition, a proper painting might set off multiple parallel chains of cognition simultaneously, and these bifurcating paths could be revisited at will acting as a silent backdrop for contemplation of these very paths and the alternates suggested by the various perspectives viewing them. Finally, the enrichment of the engaged minds viewing the works could then extract more from other works presented or even reality itself, as giving multiple species of contour to what was in effect mere assortment of colour and shape might give rise to appreciation of the beauty of what surrounds us along with the potential for extraction of knowledge hidden in plain sight (or sound, as it were). Those that really follow this didn't need to read it. I for one, will save and reread what I wrote, because having an armory of conceptual defense for the pursuit of art and philosophy is becoming increasingly necessary in a world that reacts with hostility to that which doesn't immediately result in a machine with a crank that may be turned to print hollow financial reward. May those thus comported read and understand a work like Ozymandias, and recognizing that even the greatest works resist the passage of time, find the joys and fulfillment possible in partaking of the richness of the now.

Bass is lovely. I like the vid because it reminds me of mocha frosting and chocolate. I love both. What can I say? Have to say it sounds better than I remember, but it could be my headphones. The black hole is awesome. Cave sequence awesome, and do like added colors toward the middle and end.

This video really reminds me of Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Yes! Thom said in an interview that Ozymandias was the main inspiration for this video.

I have absolutely no idea how this music video was made, and I am completely ok with that. This holds my suspension of disbelief stronger than any movie I've seen this year. Damn!

I did this at work without realizing it and had my neighbors staring at me. I am NOT a good singer, especially trying to sing falsetto.

I had been stuck on Weird Fishes/Arpeggi for weeks and I couldn't find something that can satiate the dissatisfaction that welled up (WF is such a good track and something's kinda blocked me after listening it too much. It's good but you don't feel satisfied). Then I found this, BAM!. This is the key. The open flow.

One day i hope we get a piano version of this song. Thom's falsetto chorus will sound amazing in a clean piano version. It will be like the piano version of Ingenue.

I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
