Hi. Just out of interest, how is the power of the laser head controlled? The laser head is available as a separate part. Tempted to get one and fix it to one of my CNC machines or my 3D printer

Is it easy to increase the volume in one direction to say 200x600? Would the firmware on the controller let that happen? Then get a longer extrusion? Or does the company that makes this offer a longer extrusion for the x axis?

Great video. I am looking for one 10W cuttr and this seems like a good option. I build model planes, and I like the 10mm cut power. I did not line the board foam result, the paper was cut but intermediate foam was meted and useless for use in a build for foam planes. Question: do you know any other option for 10W in the market? Thanks

What is the laser spot like? Round, square or rectangular? I heard/saw that many have a more rectangular spot causing size problems between X and Y cutting directions.

Thanks for the video Any concerns with fire hazard? I feel like something like this you have to constantly watch, so I wonder how you would do longer cuts or batch.
@hamjudo3 жыл бұрын
I just assume this sort of thing will eventually catch something on fire. I put ceramic tiles or pieces of scrap dry wall on my work surface to act as a fire break. When something does catch on fire, it isn't a crisis.
@zaprodk3 жыл бұрын
Any kind of laser cutter uses fire/burning to cut things. So they all require supervision unless you can afford the machine and area around it to burn down once in a while.

I'm curious what your'e doing for filtration and ventilation of fumes? Honestly, I would never use a laser without some form of filtration and ventilation. The last thing you want to do is to be inhaling the particulates offgassing from the combustion of your projects.

I wonder if we will get diode lasers as powerful as CO2 lasers or at least the 40w ones this channel styropyro does amazing things with laser diodes and overdriving them and laser diodes have made lots of advancements in a short time , it would be nice to have the cutting power of a CO2 laser with the benefits of a diode laser although it would probably still not be able to cut clear plexiglass like CO2 if it were diode
@zaprodk3 жыл бұрын
You can have very powerful laser diode arrays. Focusing them onto a small spot is the problem. The optics end up costing more than the laser diodes itself. Even 40W blue laser will not come close to what a cheap K40 laser can do because of the wavelength. You want an IR beam so you can cut more materials.
@andreamitchell47583 жыл бұрын
@@zaprodk yeah that's what i though ,now I am looking into fiber lasers, but I really know nothing about them, like the fundemental difference between CO2, diode and fiber looks like fiber will come down a bit more in price eventually maybe better to wait for fiber to come down

I would like to know anyone who has knowledge in laser cutting. I saw a video of a Chilean cutting aluminum and iron metal with a 10w laser cutter, there were many passes, dozens of them it took a while but he cut metal with only 10w laser. Is this really possible?

@Animalwon2 жыл бұрын
Instead of using a metal plate as your work area, you should buy a 12 inch by 12 inch (Or LARGER) WHITE, Ceramic Floor Tile. The WHITE tile will never be harmed by your laser and it's heavy weight will alway lie flat and never get caught by your laser module moving above it. The WHITE Ceramic tile is also a great protection for your WOOD table or work area since it will never get burned nor will it allow your laser to penetrate thru it nor would it allow your laser to reach the wood table below it. You can buy a Ceramic tile very cheap if you go to the clearance area of any home store like Home Depot or Lowes, or whatever home improvement store you have in your area.

Maybe put some colored painting tape over stuff that is transparent. Maybe the Lazer will work better

It will just cut the tape and leave the underlying clear material unharmed. Simple.

it cannot touch the copper. What do you want to engrave on a PCB?
@unknown-ql1fk3 жыл бұрын
For everyone, please please please buy real goggles, even if they cost 100 USD it only takes 1 accident or odd reflection or the metal sheet warps from the heat and sends the beam off the table and your eyes take a hit....and believe me, your eyes are worth way more than 100 bucks
@JMMC10053 жыл бұрын
This. Although I'm grateful that the manufacturer has at least made a decent attempt at shielding the beam. Not good enough to use without goggles, but better than nothing.

Engrave PCB please..... Please.....
@ruaengineeringanddesign2 жыл бұрын
It is extremely difficult to engrave a PCB because the laser beam reflects off the copper. It does not easily heat copper and there is a high risk that the reflected beam will damage the laser module. Lasers work best with dark non-reflecting materials.

The diagram on the Kickstarter page shows they are using a dual focus lens setup. Might be that it was translated badly, but I also see a paper where someone claims to have trademarked the term "dual focus" for use with lasers (though I can't find a US registration for that, perhaps it is registered somewhere).

Don't accept the Laser Power markings of Chinese Laser products as precise facts. The only way to know the real Laser Power is with a recently calibrated Laser Power Meter. An LPM will also allow you to see the Laser Power degradation over time. 6:22... Those cheap $2.00 plastic Goggles will not protect you from a direct 10W Laser Beam. I'd suggest getting a good pair for the Wavelength of your specific Laser.
@ELECTRONOOBS3 жыл бұрын
An acurate laser meter is expensive for me right now. Also, those goggles are 60 dollars made exactly for this wavelength. Obviously, direct laser beam is dangerous
@unknown-ql1fk3 жыл бұрын
@@ELECTRONOOBS I know 60$ is kinda pricy but dude, how much as your eyes worth? That metal sheet bends from the heat and hit a reflection thru the 2$ goggles and you're blind. Please please please protect yourself
