Does the rear camera requires the connection with tail lights or its optional. If its not connected to tail lights then it will not be switched on with the reverse gear but will still work with the touch interface?

Without hooking up to tailights, it would require a 12 volt power switch to manually turn it on. The front camera connection works without any extra wiring though.

What is the quality like for phone calls with the built-in microphone - can both sides hear eachother clearly? The original version of this unit supported plugging in an external microphone, but it looks like they've revised the design and it no longer supports that.

Built in microphone seems to work well, i've never used the external microphone just to built in one.

Built in is crap & the other caller hears tons of background noise that wasn't there with the wired mic that could be mounted much closer to your head. It's almost a deal breaker IMO now as I use these in older cars
