If your car is double din, you can get an ATOTO stereo. It's an android powered head unit with Carplay and Android Auto built in. It was $300. The wiring adapter kit was $20. Simple installation too

A question occurred to me on rewatching this today. I think I know the answer but don't want to assume: Does the device contain dual Bluetooth radios, ie. Can it communicate with both your phone's Android Auto or CarPlay wirelessly *and* with your car's Bluetooth audio receiver in the head unit at the same time or is it an either/or proposition which you use the Bluetooth connectivity for?

@gweilo8888 unfortunately I’m unable to test this, as my car doesn’t support Bluetooth streaming. I will say that I’ll hear music through my AirPods, but Waze comes out the CarPlay unit.

@@TechWinnerCC I went ahead and bought one myself so I can now confirm: It can't bluetooth stream directly from the device to the car's head unit, but it doesn't *need* to. The phone connects to both the screen and head unit and then routes the audio to the head unit, instead of routing it to the screen for playback as it does when using the screen's internal speaker. This all makes sense too, as it's pretty trivially easy to route the audio given the phone is rendering the entire feed internally and just transmitting the video to the screen which basically acts as a fancy, modern, touchscreen, camera and microphone-equipped dumb terminal. So although it lacks the feature I asked about, it isn't an issue in the least.

Got one a couple of weeks ago. I like it, 9 out of 10 for me. A few things to tweak-improve: day-night config backwards. reversed hours when night lighting dims. Took me a bit to hide GameSnacks from AAuto display. I do not want any apps I did not install. Not hidden, please allow uninstall. One last thing. How to disable the loud beep-noise when the device starts. Please pass on to Lamtto since you have a connection. Thank you.

I have one. The pro's and con's for me: The good: - The cameras are ok...they're clear with a decent capture view. - Form and look of the unit good - Screen responsiveness is good (when it finally loads) - Being able to capture and see both front and back cameras at the same time is nice. The fails. - The boot screen chime when you plug it in is way to loud. Why does it even need a welcome/boot screen chime? - The response time when using Siri,...the gap is way to long between saying "Siri" and the point you can finally interact with her. - the audio is bad...whether using the aux jack or the FM connection. You will need to buy a headphone amplifier and ground loop isolator (40/50 dollars total). Those two things will drastically improve the sound. - the mic situation is confusing to me. I can't tell if it's using its own internal mic or the phones. In the beginning, it seemed like it was using an internal mic and it was hot garbage. Somehow things have improved (I don't know how) maybe it's because I bring my phone closer to me when I'm driving and leave voice messages. I wish this thing had a mic port like I have in my other cars unit so I could use a aftermarket microphone,...that way I can leave the phone where it is, place the aftermarket mic close to me....and speak normally. - lastly,...I still haven't figured out how to save a video. There should be a button "save clip"....but that would be too easy 🤬😫🤦‍♂️.

Bought this exact one and I guess with my luck I had a terrible experience. After I plugged it in and set it up the audio was fine but there was this loud kettle sound noise every time I revved or drove. Got it and returned it the same day lol

I did screw it into my pristine 13 year old dashboard, after trying the tape and it not sticking to the curved contours of my dash. Am I crazy? Probably. But it works and I’m committed to it now.

I've noticed a few of the reviews on this unit don't show that blue menu on the left edge. I also noticed a small overlaid circle off to the right. Just installed my Lamtto 9.26 and it's seem to be just what I wanted but my back-up camera is reversed( left is right and right is left, up and down is just fine. I tried to turn the camera over and of course that didn't work. left and right was OK but now it was up-side down any suggestions?

How did you run the cable of the back camera? Does the back camera come up on the screen automatically when you try to reverse?

@@Charismaanytime I had a local stereo shop install the rear camera and yes the back up camera works just as soon as you put your car in reverse. There is a green wire near the camera and it wires into your back up lights which activates the camera. Note the dvr does not record when in reverse but it does record when in drive.

If the music is originating from the Spotify app on your phone, yes. I use Amazon Music, but same principal and controlling it from the CarPlay screen works. I don’t have a car that supports Bluetooth streaming, but it works to my AirPods just fine.

CarPlay is just an extension of your phone. Your phone is still doing all of the actual work. So whether you control the media playback from your phone’s screen or the CarPlay screen makes no difference. Well I got it. And it is awesome. It had an update so that little blue side bar is gone. There is only a white dot you can move around to access the same things. It’s like Guided Access on the iPhone.

Not sure if the unit is upgraded now but the new ones doesnt have that blue bar on that corner. It fills up the entire screen now. There is a square icon with a circle inside that can navigate back to home which you can place anywhere you want to.

Assuming the car supports Bluetooth streaming, yes. My 2011 doesn’t - it supports Bluetooth phone calls but not streaming. They’re two different things. Wonder if your dad’s car is like that: supporting Bluetooth calls only.

Most cars disable power to the DC power port when they’re not on, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
