In the beginning of his career, people mistook Rafa's intensity and quirkiness for a kind of manic, distant coldness. But that couldn't be further from the truth, and the years showed who he really is. An absolute gentleman, humble, passionate, and incredibly hard working. A true role model, in a time where we desperately need more like him. I am happy for him, but also sad to see him leave. He had an amazing run. Go enjoy your family now, Rafa! God speed!
@Curt-t2rКүн бұрын
@@chrism3790 I agree with everything you wrote, except coldness. You were on the right track. When Rafa first came on the scene he had the long hair and capri shorts and cut off shirts. People (and several of my good friends) mistakenly took that as cockiness. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It wasn’t cockiness. He has always been bashful, quirky, and never felt comfortable in his own skin. I implore everyone to read the brilliant article in the New Yorker by Louisa Thomas. Rafa has an all time great level of humility. When he was 19 and on his way to becoming a millionaire, and very handsome, with a ridiculous physique, he opened up about his fear of the dark and fear of storms and deep water. It’s the antithesis of a man who had more intensity, more drive, more fighting spirit than anyone in any sport, ever. Read the Nee Yorker article. Andy Roddick called an emergency podcast when he heard the retirement. He got Jon Wertheim on from his car (who is the top tennis journalist in the world ) and I loved what Jon said, “you can talk about all the records which are goofy, but I want to talk about Rafa behind the scenes. At every tennis tournament he always made time for and thanked the workers in the players food service, the ball girls and ball boys, the volunteers “. It’s why R-Fed said “if there is one word to describe Rafa, it’s kindness”. This man transcended Sports and transcended tennis. I am absolutely devastated with his retirement. My idol. Rafa Nadal. Long live Rafa. VAMOS.

Dear Rafa, you will forever be remembered as a symbol of humility, honesty, and unparalleled passion. ♥ Your contribution to the world, both on and off the court, is a priceless gift, a testament to the incredible person you are. The heartfelt words from your friends and companions, those who have shared so many meaningful moments with you, reflect the deep respect and admiration they hold for you. Without you, they wouldn’t be who they are today-and without them, you wouldn’t have become the Rafa we all cherish. I don’t know if these words will ever reach you, but please know that you will be deeply missed. Thank you for everything, Rafa. ♥

@@d_lydian Beautifully said. Great writing. Thank you Rafa deserves it. I am a 58 year old man in the U.S. who played and followed hockey and Football. But for the past 20 years Rafa has been my idol. Inspiration. It’s hard to explain. I became a massive tennis fan. A Rafa vs Nole is more physical with more suffering than football. The mental part of playing an individual sport is off the charts. But Andy Roddick said “Rafa you are my idol. I feel strange saying that about a younger player who is in my sport but you are my idol”. So I guess a 58 year old shouldn’t feel strange saying it either. The greatest athlete of this century. If not for injuries he would have over 30 Grand Slams. Thank you Rafa. Vamos Rafa, Viva Rafa. Long life Rafael Nadal.
