One thing that can help to slow it down during the approach (until the bug gets fixed) is to verify that after selecting TO power that the prop NP% actually goes back up to 100%, if not move the condition levers into the override position. That helps quite a bit if ATC asked you to keep the speed up for a jet behind you, happened to me yesterday on vatsim :)

Always interesting information from a real pilot :) My challenge is now reducing the speed early enough, so that you don't end in a big rush just before landing. Suppose you could use hold to reduce altitude and speed ? I haven't trusted VNAV quite yet, seems it's late with TOD. Need to practice more, manual VS of 1,500 ft/min works great, use calculator when to start the decent. I'll usually make it 5nm earlier, enough for slowing down further. It's a bit like flying DC-6 :)

From what i've experienced, you have to put a lot of forward pressure after landing when using reversers because the plane will want to pitch up quite a bit.

Strange, I never felt that. For me it's during takeoff to prevent an early rotation.

Brilliant Video, Firstly to say. Just had a doubt, don't you set the Power Management straight to TO once gear is selected down, since this actually prepares you for a possible Go Around, and also compensates for the drag that the gear produces?

When I have an RNAV approach loaded in the FMC, I don't get a TOD marker, and it doesn't allow me to descent via VNAV. Can you help me please?

Thanks for another great tutorial series. I somehow keep one wheeling every other landing, some paint missing from the wing... I need some practice, not sure what I'm doing wrong just yet. For go arounds, flaps 15, throttle to the notch, and press the TO button on the throttles the correct procedure for this plane?

Stay close to Vapp, start the flare at 20 feet and bring the power levers back slowly. For a go around, press the button(s) on the PL, move the PL past the notch into the ramp, select flaps to 15, once positive rate is established select the gear up, and ask for HDG or LNAV, then IAS.

Anyone else having trouble entering a hold in the MCDU? My plane always ignores the hold and just goes in a random direction after it should enter the hold, doesn't even follow the original nav mode when this happens.

Using VS in the descent is pretty different. In the Boeings, VS stands for very seldom. It will take some practice to do those mode changes near the airport.

Thanks a lot for the series! Great tutorial. One question! I had the issue at descent that I got into overspend with the ATR 42. But even after I reduced the speed I couldn’t leave the „pitch hold“ mode. The flashing warning on the display was „select LNAV“. Which was active. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong?

Did you reduce your speed to below 245 knots? It has a small safety margin build in before you can engage VNAV again when you overspeed.

Because VNAV in the current version is still a bit bugged and wouldn't guide us in properly. Needs an update and then should be usable all the way to the end.

When you selected the Course by turning the CRS knob, where is it displayed so that you know what it's getting set to ?? EDIT: Never mind, I found it. It's under the altitude tape and QNH setting on the PD. Also at 6:11 you said you were selecting "Speed Hold" mode, yet you pressed IAS and not SPD HOLD. So did you mean Indicated Air Speed? Sorry just a little confused with that one.

Are you sure you actually levelled the plane off at cruise level? Not a hundret feet below? Also the power selector is set to CRZ and not CLB?

Probably still too far out from the TOD? There's something in the manuals that if you select a lower altitude more than 40NM (I believe... not sure) out the FMC will simply lower the cruise altitude.

@@A330Driver No, I am quite close to the TOD, but all I get is the sound the plane makes when approaching target altitude and the TOD point moves towards the target airport as I lower the selected altitude. 🤷‍♂ Btw. according to the PERF page, the plane seems to be in approach mode.

Sometimes when I am at VNAV ALT and I preselect lower altitude, the airplane starts immediately pitching down instead of at TOD. Anybody has a clue what I might be doing wrong?

​@@McWaters12 this usually indicates you may have missed a step in the FMC programming. Make sure you have a cruise level set in the FMC, fuel and weights, etc

For some reason my plane always climbs right past the assigned altitude and when I change the altitude with VNAV set before descent it just moves my TOD on the map way closer to the airport. Anyone else having this not match the video?

I'm not great in ATR yet, and I find that I struggle to read the tiny displays, which I do not doubt in the real airplane are not so small. But an issue I keep having is, on final, with A/P on and fully configured, the airplane starts going below the glideslope. That's happened to me at 2 different airports. I'm not too slow, so I don't know why it would do that. I click off the A/P, add power and raise the nose, that's all I know how to do, but it's like being caught in a microburst and the plane wants to go down. I know, that can't be right. Perhaps I am too accustomed to the Boeings. But why would it drop below the G/S with the A/P on? I enjoy the ATR and the sound of the turboprops. Love the lower altitudes for sight seeing, which is what MFS does the best.

Whenever i start to decend my throttle refuse to idle even though in the cockpit it shoes them in the idle poistion. Im on xbox and i use the airbus quadron and side stick does anyone know how to fix this?
