Thank you for this in-depth review of this device. You should consider testing it out using the new $50 ONN android TV box that has a USB and added memory that may be used for DVR functions. If it works I would see it as a suitable alternative to The 4K 3.0 homerun until they get the DRM to work. I am more interested in the GT media box coming out soon

To be bluntly honest I wouldn't count on Silicondust to do anything anytime soon. Their own app that comes with the hardware is slow clunky and feels cobbled together. Tell them its a sluggish hot mess and they literally act surprised. They are always procrastinating and always brushing stuff aside "later later" or saying something is under consideration. Never seen them take the initiative and say "yeah that ideas great we will get right on it immediately!" They just want to sell hardware but do nothing to actually add features if it will cost them time or money to do so. They are literally masters of dragging their feet when it comes to implementing stuff, no joke. 🙄

@@peterkozlowski4377 thus the reason why I returned my SD HR 4K for a full refund until a working unit can be sold. It seems to me in the past 10 years new tech is pushed out the door before being fully tested out just collect $. The Zinwell Nextgen turner is a true example of this.

Did you test the X1 box already? Does it have the interlacing issue? It’s being sold on the eBay already…

does the software have a signal meter? This would be a cool device for aiming an antenna for the DIYer....

It does. Some people use it just for that. Especially the antenna installers.

Yes I bought one of these because of the good signal meter it has. It has manual tuning and will show pre decode signal level, so you can aim an antenna with it.

Given that you covered aspects and features of a number of TV devices, it seems that Sony based tuners perform significantly better than Saankhya Labs SDR with regards to reception of both ATSC 1.0 and 3.0 signals? Can GT Media confirm if they are utilizing Sony based tuners in their USB and upcoming Android Converter X1?

That’s a really good question. I’ll email GTMedia and see what demod chip they are using for both.

Any idea of what support this has on other devices? ie: nvidia shield, amazon cube, etc. I assume not for shield because it runs android tv, any news if they are going to port the apk to android tv perchance?

Was curious to get this given the low price, but not sure if i should maybe wait on x1 converter. Any idea how much that will be? Otherwise nice video. GTMedia if your reading this Can we maybe get 2 usb 3 ports and a sd card slot on the x1 converter if possible?

@@WNYOverTheAir might be worth waiting on that, as it has the drm support and might be more polished, i think i'll wait on the campaign and try to grab 2 boxes early at 120 =)

Maybe add some more popular android boxes as well in that mix. Too bad nvidia shield is android TV, and well android tv app support is literally dead in the water. Unless they decide to be nice and charitable and port the apk to the platform. Also anyway to get that apk if its not showing up in respective app stores?

Boycott OTA DRM encrypted ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV because it is DRM dead. Long live ATSC 1.0 with true no restrictions OTA TV recordlings and no internet needed.
