I can't wait until they can put 2926 into one of the buildings of the old rail yard and use the entire property as a somewhat interactive museum for example by giving turn table rides. I know that the turn table is a bad example but I am also genuinely curious about how that would feel like.

The City of Albuquerque is working on long term plans to redevelop the Rail Yards into a public space with shops, restaurants, green space, etc. Included in the plans are to preserve the turntable, and I’m fairly certain leave space for a small rail museum on part of the former roundhouse site, which I’d assume would be the new permanent home for 2926. SLC is all UP-owned tracks, and they’re against any mainline steam that isn’t one of their own steam locomotives on their tracks (see 4449 in Portland). It would be nice to have an honest and real answer as to whats actually going on. Don't you think your supporters deserve that at least?
@Stooltoad5017Ай бұрын
Well, to start with, to my knowledge they don’t have any of their own passenger cars, and likely don’t have enough room to own any at the moment. So far, New Mexico has been amiable with 2926, but that doesn’t mean they are going to green light an excursion any time soon. NMHR would either have to find more room to house passenger cars, or rent them out from somebody else. Neither option is any where close to cheap. We are probably still a few years off from any actual excursion yet. They can’t just wave a wand to make it all happen. They’re probably gonna have to fund raise to make an excursion happen.
@atsf2926Ай бұрын
We understand your frustration though it ain't "classified" information. We are working with many political entities and trying to build trust with them to push the engine further. Sooo we can't just go blabbing about what we're doing willy nilly for if we say the wrong things it might set us and engine back in the progress we've made. And we're not just being cautious for no reason we've had somone say a bunch of stuff in the past that wasn't true. And that ruined relations which halted progress with the engine. Its also not a simple answer either the video will probably be 10 to 20 minutes long just to get through all of it. On top of watching what we say. Its also not my place to judge what I can say as a spokesperson (kindacircle) Me and John R. (president) are working on a interview that will go through all of it. Hence I said I'd get into it later because we will hopefully in depth. Sadly some things we won't be able to answer because their out of our hands. Railroads like UP sadly set a bad president. They are a first class railroad that has millions of dollars and their own track they can do whatever they want with steam when they want. We however are a volunteer group we can't just run. Gotta go through the channels and do the right things to get there. The engine is making progress thats more than any volunteer group has done with a loco this big in nearly 30 years.

That poor engine. All dressed up and ready to go. It is a captive, restlessly pacing the tracks in the yard. Will it every get out? Is it destined to be drifting back and forth hoping to find an open switch leading the the main rail and freedom. Now it suffers the indignity of a plaything, letting the boys play with the whistle, ringing the bell but never feeling the exeleration of running wide open, eating up the miles as the mains grip the rails and the stack keeps the beat of the cylinders driving black beauty across the open desert. Yes, it runs, but nowhere.
@chooch1764Ай бұрын
Your negative comment is not helping at all. The NMHR needs donations to get a full PTC system on 2926, restore the turntable, and get approval from NMDOT and BNSF. Mainline excursions will happen, but only if more of us contribute to NMHR with donations and spreading the word to encourage others to donate. Sit there and just naysaying does nothing but hold preservation back. That is not cool of you and you need to first apologize and then take down this comment, because I hate naysayers.
@TheSteamGuy5125Ай бұрын
Are you serious right now. First of all it just sounds like you're hating and 2, you're just speaking nonsense. It's a miracle that 2926 is able to even run at least 2 miles on the mainline. Right now displaying the locomotive and showing her off to the public is the only thing they can do right now because they need funds and donations and yes excursions will happen, you just need to be patient and donate so that you can help and make happen instead of sitting there and leaving your negativity in this video that took 2 weeks to make and bashing NMHR just cuz you think 2926 is "being held captive" by displaying her and showing her off to the public and showing us in person what they've been working on for the past 27 years going back to when this group first formed. So either take this comment down and quite making a fool of yourself or don't leave a comment and don't donate if you're not interested, simple as that.
