It was and still is a miracle 2926 is running. The locomotive sat outdoors for so long and was vandalized heavily. What this group has managed to do with 2926 is nothing short of a miracle. Having watched this restoration during my time in High School and seeing what happened from then till it first turn a wheel under its own power, shows how dedicated this team is. P.S. I would hope those same city council members who considered wanting to Scrap 2926 are still around to have witnessed the rebirth.

It just goes to show what hard work, dedication and teamwork can lead to and I'm sure members who are no longer with the organization or have passed on are looking down and are super proud of all the hard work that this organization has carried on and continued with and now hopefully 2926 will be making new memories and showing the next generations What steam locomotives are all about. I personally am just waiting for the day when she will finally get to stretch her wheels and rods and show the people and we'll fans what kind of horsepower she's got in that boiler.

I am a native Puebloan and I remember as a kid passing by the 2912. I actually had a hand in its repaint and attempt to repair the loco after it was moved to where it rests today. Seeing the 2926 fully restored is truly a joy to see as it reminds me of the 2912 and its glory days. Thank you so much for your efforts NMHR!

I always remember going to the park and seeing the plaque that said she weighed 999999 Lbs and thinking Really, you couldn't add 1 Lb. LOL

Chills on that last part. "If only those volunteers could foresee where their accomplishment would lead to". I think they knew were it was going.

Impressive as always. It’s a shame what often happens to park locomotives. I haven’t seen it in person just yet but I know CB&Q #4000 is just chilling in a park in Wisconsin. One of the last surviving Hudson class steam locomotives in U.S, it is kept in decent condition by the 4000 group that watches over it and hosts event around it. Sadly the group doesn’t have the resources or time to make an operational restoration (at least as far as I am aware). Even so, I hope to go out and see it some day.

I won't get tired of saying it: It's still amazing of how you guys have come a long way with 2926 though. :) Out of curiosity... what became of that caboose that was with 2926 in Coronado Park? Edit: Sorry if @TheLongIslandRailfan already asked about that. Couldn't resist asking about it as well. ^^;

After discussing with Henry he told me "We looked into restoring it many years ago. It was discovered that the frame was severely damaged due to a past fire and was not viable for an operational restoration. We ended up selling it to a private party that we hope to work with in the future on other projects."

Who else thinks that 2926 loos like a mix of J class 611 and ATSF 3751, or is it just me?

Just wondering, what happened to the caboose in the park after 2926 was moved?
@atsf2926
@atsf2926 6 ай бұрын
Messer construction brought in a trailer where the caboose was lifted onto and carried away. I don't know where they took it though.

@@atsf2926 What was the caboose numbered?
@TheLongIslandRailfan
@TheLongIslandRailfan 6 ай бұрын
@@atsf2926 UPDATE: I (likely) found the number after some research. The caboose was numbered in 2018 and was built by the ATSF in 1942. It is currently at the Wheels Museum near Coronado Park. If I'm incorrect, then it was likely numbered 1760R and was built by the AC&F in 1929. Its current whereabouts are unknown.

For when the ATSF 6 chime needed restored, what did you guys do with the SP 6 chime that originally belonged to 4449? Did you guys plan to send it back to 4449? I’m genuinely curious because I never thought that whistle would ever be recovered!

So I have a question: 2926 has a whistle attached in some of these old pics but is was somehow missing in the later pics, is that the original it has now or was that a different whistle?
@atsf2926
@atsf2926 6 ай бұрын
The whistle on her now is original. So the pics without the whistle was after the nmsl started working on the engines so they probably removed the whistle so it wouldn't get stolen

@@atsf2926 do you know if they stored it at the Wheels Meuseum during that time when she was moved out of the park?

@@TheSteamGuy5125 The whistle was in storage at our work site during the restoration. We sent it to Rizzoli Locomotive works in California for restoration before reinstalling it!

@@TheSteamGuy5125 i don't know for sure but it could be a possibility but it also could be equally possible a trusted volunteer took it home for safe keeping. We know the organization had it because they put it on a aircompressor and blew it during the first day of the move on the 23rd. Then once we had a restoration site it was probably stored there
