Wish I had found you sooner. Your method of attaching joining strips is way easier than I have been doing. I will be checking out your videos in the future.

Looks great. I do the joining in reverse…1” in back, 2” in front, to join squares, border etc. gives a narrow colour between

Thank you . I've been useing the qayg method but not with the strips . I do it with a backing that is an inch larger than the front piece and sew it wrong sides together then press the extra flap in front open and fold into itself twice then sew it down along the front . I like your way too.

It is better to put the folded strip on the FRONT and the narrow strip on the back.
@sandibird1680
@sandibird1680 2 жыл бұрын
that way it would look the same as the strips in between the blocks, great idea

You should add to your title the word 'Wide'. I am new to QAYG and found it very difficult to search for Wide borders. Adding this to the title would help people like me find you on KZbin easier. Thanks for the very helpful video. But, less movement of the camera would be nice.

Have a question: does your 1" strip have to be 1"? Can it be 1 1/2"?

What are the size of joining strings? Can I use 4 inches on the front and 2 inches string?
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor Жыл бұрын
You can use whatever size you are comfortable with. I would do a test with the sizes on a test block and if you like the way it looks then I would proceed with that size. I believe I used 1.5” on the front and 2” on the back.

So you cut batting 1/2” smaller than top and backing? Thanks. Your videos are very helpful
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Audrey- It depends. If I place the batting in between two border pieces and use sashing, then I cut it about a 1/4" smaller. If I sew the 2 pieces of fabric on without the batting, I will cut the batting to fit inside after the 2 pieces have been sewn on. It doesn't have to be exact, but you will want the batting in there. I guess what I am trying to say is that there isn't a set measurement as it will vary depending on the size of your border. I hope that makes sense. 😊

@Kathy- The process to adding the borders on the other end is the same. I recommend doing the top, the bottom, then add the sides.

Well I learned one thing....I’ve been doing sashing incorrectly. I put the one inch strip on bottom and the folded two inch strip on top. I’m going to reverse on my next quilt and see if it is easier
@TheCraftyAuthor
@TheCraftyAuthor 3 жыл бұрын
Rosie- There really isn’t a right or wrong way for the placement of the sashing. You just have to figure out which way you prefer. I have done both and I prefer the folded portion on top. I just finished a t-shirt quilt using sashing and I cut the top and bottom sashing at 1.5”. It actually worked out really well and now I prefer using the same size strips. I use decorative stitching on my sashing anyway, so I didn’t have any effect on the way the quilt stitching looked. It was much easier with the sashing all the same size. You might want to give that a try and see if you like that better as well. 😊
