I learned this method on my very first quilt. I made a throw for my mom. Had it bound, ready to gift, and she mentioned she needed a new king size comforter for their queen bed. Off came the binding, and on went borders. Luckily the throw was almost exactly the same size as the top of the mattress, and the borders look like they were planned for the drop! A really good technique to have!

Ha ha! A feral sewing machine, like a cat, might only work when it wants to. It would have to be set up in a sunny window. Prefers oil from canned tuna. And it might be hurt if you paid attention to the serger, Juki, Featherweight... All fun names for cats! Speaking of ferals, My housecats, formerly feral, love when I sew. One likes belly rubs and lays on fabric and supplies , and soaks up attention. The other, more reserved, becomes kitten-like, and I have to keep fun choking hazards such as spools of thread and trimmed threads away from him.. Once he had thread attached to the spool wrapped around the table legs and a good length of the had spit so yeah, choking hazard.

I really love the fact that at the end you said you could do it to add on to a short quilt or one that someone has just outgrown. I had thought about this before, but never attempted it because I thought well that’s got to be wrong or somebody would’ve done it by now. I use my serger to sew these flip and stitch sections together. Very quick assembly. Sometimes I use minky remnants for the back sections.

Not only does this quilt help us get rid of scraps that we never knew what to do with, I feel that this will be great fun and help me develop my quilting skills, as I’m not very advanced, because it helps me with the ‚3D-thinking‘ as I like to call it. you changed my QAYG world!!. JUST Last week I had pulled out 3 rows of stitches to try to get the back fabric to line up with the front when attaching blocks. NOW THIS!! i attached 4 blocks in a row in 2 minutes!!! I can't thank you enough for the perfect timing of this video.

Also when cutting WOF, start the cut on the FOLDED side. This will help prevent wiggles that are unrecoverable as the open edges are easier to re-align.

I really love this video. I am a very beginner quilter and quite daunted by the whole quilt sandwich thing. I have sewn a couple of quilt tops together and they have turned out bigger than Ben Hur size. Consequently that's as far as they have got and will probably stay that way now. Karen, this is wonderful. I have so many blocks unassembled because I have no idea how they need to be quilted and I don’t live in an area where there is a long arm quilter.
