I use rivets that have 9mm caps and either 8mm or 9mm posts depending on how thick my layers are.

Hi, I'm about to buy a handheld hole punch and was wondering if they're all the same in the size holes they make. What size hole would you make for a 9mm rivet? TIA Debbie King

Hi Debbie! For a 9mm rivet I make a 2mm hole. I have a leather punch with sizes 2mm up to 4.5mm and I almost exclusively use the 2mm punch. The size of the rivet refers to the cap size and post length, the diameter of the post - the part you are actually putting into the punched hole - should be the same regardless of the rivet size (I suppose very small or very large may different but all the various sizes I have used are the same!).
