According to Jumanji: TAS, Van Pelt's whole purpose is to hunt everything that dwells/enters Jumanji. However, if he were to die somehow, the person responsible would become Jumanji's new big game hunter as there must always be a hunter.

They're praising the movie writers (or possibly RW's improv) for recognizing that Alan's cultural touchstones would all be from his childhood in the 60s. "Knows nothing about the world he is in (the world in 1995), so references a show from the 60s and it lands perfect." So maybe double check what you're reading before you insult somebody.

Perhaps a manifestation of his father, in a way, but definitely even Billy Jessup somehow. I always thought of Van Pelt as an adult version of Billy Jessup chasing Alan in the jungle realm of Jumanji for that long and more when coming out of the game/realm of Jumanji.

I certainly hope that the scanner used was a normal light, not a laser, because in real life that could destroy the eyes, and I don't think the actors' contracts include a promise to destroy the actor's eyesight. The film itself again. Well it's a character in a game, so it can't be damaged, even by a laser price scanner, as someone suggested earlier.

That shelf of paint crashing down on him would have killed him. That was probably over 1000 pounds of paint landing on him and burying him. It would have killed him. Especially being buried with all those cans of paint. He would have suffocated. The worst he would have been crushed. How could a person survive that?
