"残念ながら、性別は無いのだが。" Yes, "残念" may sometimes stand for "it's a shame", but most of the time, it means "it's a pity" or "that's too bad". After the evolution, Rimuru became a gorgeous being with long, lustrous silver hair. With silver hair flowing over its cheeks, it was a display of heavenly beauty. "But what a pity this being (Rimuru) has no gender." Translation like this is more reasonable in my opinion.

Chopping off Rimuru's head would have the same effect as cutting off his arm. He's a slime so his consciousness is spread throughout his body, not located in any specific area. While they are called Ogres, they are closer to Japanese Oni in resemblance. Also "Majin" is another word for demon.

Johannes Kiehl : I believe their upgraded form is "Kijin." In Japanese, 鬼 Oni is a traditional ogre or demon. 鬼神 Kijin (oni + god) could be a scarier form, I’m not sure. This series plays on evolution/ devolution regarding some of the humanoid races that classified as “monsters”. For example, Ogre, Hobgoblin, and Goblin all devolved from the same origin and actually shared the same evolution path but it is ultra rare for Hobgoblin to evolve into Ogre (in the later LN). Kijin is one of the evolution paths available to Ogre. There are also other variations of Ogre in the series that all resembles the western style. The group introduced in this episode is actually not the norm of Ogre of this series and they have a valid reason for their Japanese style appearances.

The amazing thing about Grandfather Ogre cutting off Rimuru's arm was the fact that the act penetrated *three* magic defenses. Even though Rimuru was in human form, his Magic Sense should have let him know Grandfather was near, as it did when the busty Ogre attacked him with the mace. Similarly we had already seen Body Armor at work when he was attacked by the male Ogre warrior with a sword. Finally, Grandfather penetrated Multilayer Barrier, mentioned in passing but not explained in the anime. Commentors to other videos say the light novel (LN) explained this power while Rimuru was in the cave. All we saw was the Black Flame reveal, but apparently the LN explained other powers as well. They said the Multilayer Barrier is very powerful, but didn't actually mention what it did. Anyway, for Grandfather to penetrate all three defenses puts his skills and experience at a very high level. Once he gets a name, well, let's just say I would not want to pi** him off.

Yeah, the old man is the most badass of all the ogres, just wait until they get upgraded. Also, the majin who is connected to the orcs is named Gelmud. Fun fact, he is also the one who named the older brother who died. Also, Dissociation (Shizue's unique skill) will play a big part later. In fact you can already kind of tell, though it's easy to miss if you don't already know how it affects things.

I think this is where people get confused, saying veldora is the reason he's so strong... When in truth, great sage only uses his power essentially in emergencies. Spoiler alert; . . . . . . The main thing veldora's power has been used for is naming.... To the point of making him pass out alongside rimuru.

Black lightning is from the evolved two horn version of the tempest wolf. That's why he transformed into one the first time he used it. He doesn't have any of Veldoras ability because he would need to dissolve and analyze him to get them. Which he won't do for obvious reasons.

Wonder if the mask is actually transferring power to another person, rimiru could be actually powering someone up slowly over time. They say that the masks the evil majin wore were different, so maybe those masks give power while this one takes it, and the middle man that's transferring the power to the majin has suddenly got a big boost now.
