X-Men 2 was also one of those games that didn't start with the Sega logo and title screen. The game started with an intro level in Siberia... the second that players turned on their Genesis.

Fun fact: In MKII for Genesis (and for the 32X version), you can consistently freeze up the game during Kung Lao's slicer fatality. While the slicer fatality animation is "executing", simply perform the slicer fatality again and the game will instantly lockup! Needless to say, I learned not to spam Kung Lao's slicer fatality!

Lord, in Super Monaco GP 2, Senna personally suggested made many corrections compared to the original game:1- touching the edges (red and white) won’t slow you down. 2- being really close to the car in front you gives you more speed due less air friction (vacuum effect). 3- many courses now requires to use brakes, and before you didn’t need. 4- hitting cars won’t give you advantages anymore etc

Double Dragon was the first arcade game I ever played, so I LOVE the franchise. I couldn't get the first game on the Genesis, but I bought 2 and 3, and I actually really enjoyed both games back then. To me, Double Dragon 3 on Genesis is a big improvement over the original arcade game (which isn't saying much since the arcade game is really bad). However, nowadays I can't play any of the Genesis versions anymore. The three games have aged pretty badly, with Double Dragon II being the worst of the bunch. I played the hell out of most of the games on the list, so this was a blast of nostalgia. Thanks for the great video and the memories it brought back.

Fun to watch. I totally agree on Golden Axe 2. It's better in some ways than the previous, worse in others. In some ways, it's a bit more faithful to the original Golden Axe arcade game despite being a sequel to it, such as the levels are not broken up like the Genesis version, which was weird. GA2 has some excellent music. It definitely could have used more memory as four megabits was too limiting. The first game was similar enough to the arcade graphically that it really makes me wonder what they could have done with 8 or 16 megs. I also wanted to mention that Rolling Thunder 2 is one of my favorite games on the system. I was surprised how much I liked it when I played it about six or seven years ago. I didn't hear many people talk about that one, but it's an excellent game for the system.

Shadow Dancer is a weird one. As Shadow Dancer the arcade is most definitely the sequel to the arcade Shinobi. But the MD version isn't the same as the arcade.. But is Super/ Revenge of Shinobi a sequel to the original Shinobi arcade ... Or is that a spin off, and arcade Shadow Dancer is the only real sequel to it... I've just tied my head in knots.

Shadow Dancer was the only Shinobi game I played as a kid. I had no idea what "Shinobi" was, of course, as I only knew of that game. It was a damn tough game for a kid though, those one-hit deaths really made every mistake brutally punishing. My best friend and I played it a lot but never got further than the second to last level, until he borrowed the game for his birthday party (interesting choice come to think of it, as it is a single player game). By some divine providence, he managed to not only make it to the last level, but beat the final boss in front of a screaming bunch of classmates. He was definitely king of video games that day.

MKII was improved for the 32X - loads of samples, use of PWM, more colour everywhere - but not having hardware ADPCM support on either machine has to be the main reason why speech was left out. Still, some people actually consider the 32X version the best port. I totally agree about the sound effects in Golden Axe II - the original was far better in this regard, though at least the sound engine doesn't pause for samples anymore. It does make you think what could be achieved if the original was ported again with a larger cart size, tweaked colours (see the Pyron hack) and better sound engine - I'm not suggesting that it would be arcade-perfect, of course not, but it'd still be a decent update over what was a decent port in the first place. That cart size would do wonders for faking the sprite scaling of the original arcade version. I have a soft spot for Super Monaco GP and played it a LOT in my teenage years, though I never actually owned it. I loved it so much that I actually bought the Genesis version, along with a region cart, a few years ago. To be fair to the sequel, the car effects remind me a little of 80s F1, so I personally wouldn't consider that a negative - the other cars did still sound like bees, though.

There was a period around 90/91 where every Sega sequel was like the original on steroids. Rolling Thunder games on Genesis are so overlooked. Perfect gameplay. Visuals hold up better than vast majority. Golden Axe II was first Genesis game I bought other than my pack-in Sonic 1. Loved it but surprised I beat it so quickly, growing up on NES conversions that were long epic quests rather than actual arcade games I had no idea what owning an actual true arcade game would be like. The upside is that it was arcade experience at home, the down side was a game like that is only a few hours long.

If Golden Axe 2 was easy, you could try activating the magic glitch. This can only be done at the end of the bridge level, the level before the volcano where you have to fight a bunch of lizardmen as the boss. You have to "charge" your magic up as much as possible, preferably to the max, and have it "charged" by the end of the fight. (easier said than done though) It only works on this level because in other levels, your character will automatically release the magic when the boss dies, but not on this level for some reason. I haven't tried this for all levels, but for the few that I have, the magic is immediately released when the fight is done except for this particular level. Next up will be the camping interlude where those mages will come and steal some of your magic books. This will result in you having less magic than what you finished the level with. This is exactly what you want. The goal here is to end the sequence with LESS magic than you "charged" up after the previous boss fight, so just don't pick up any more magic books and you'll be set. In the next level (volcano) your character will immediately release magic at the level which you "charged" it to at the end of the previous level (e.g if you charged to max, the highest level of magic would be released) the moment the level starts. However since your current stash of magic is LESS than what is required for the magic that is cast, it results in an overflow where the amount of magic you have breaks through the maximum possible level for your chosen character and practically fills the bottom of your screen. You can now spam magic as much as you like without ever running out of it. A bit of caution here, you CAN now "charge" your magic beyond the previous limit of your character's highest level of magic (e.g, the dwarf's magic only goes up to level 3, but you can "charge" your magic beyond that), however releasing the "charged" magic will result in the game freezing and necessitate a reset.

In fact a major part of the appealing of the sculpture software's PHENOMENAL version of Mortal Kombat 3 is the fact of retaining a big part of the arcade voice samples. Honestly, I think the point you made about Sega not bringing many of its properties forward to other hardware generations is what made me appreciate Sega more than Nintendo. Sure, it's a bummer that some of them didn't come forward, but there were certain properties that were best left in the past, in my opinion. My favorite of these is easily X-Men 2 Clone Wars. One touch I liked beyond what you spoke about is related to the music. Every stage's song has its own base track that plays. @@SegaLordX Yeah, I mean if you play it, you're not gonna have a bad time. But Probe really crapped the bed in terms of effort spent. Which makes no sense as their PC port of MK2 was phenomenal. So it wasn't a question of not being able to do it, they just chose not to apply themselves.

Senna would after his videogame's release in 1992 sadly die 2 years later on May 1st 1994 after crashing into a concrete barrier while leading in that year's San Marino Grand Prix. RIP Brazil's Ayrton Senna. Senna's death wasn't the only one for that Grand Prix as during qualifying the day before (April 30th) an Austrian, Roland Ratzenberger had hit a concrete barrier wall almost head-on and was critically injured. The qualifying session was stopped while doctors attended to Ratzenberger. After initially being taken by ambulance to the on-circuit medical centre, he was airlifted to Maggiore Hospital shortly after. Later in hospital, it was announced that Ratzenberger had died as a result of his multiple injuries. RIP Roland Ratzenberger

I remember trying to get my dad to rent Splatterhouse 2 for me but I didn't have a Genesis. First time 5 or 6 year old kid me realized that there was other consoles besides the NES. I wanted a SEGA afterwards. Edit : Also greatest Heavyweights reminds me of Evander Holyfield boxing on the Genesis.

@@SomeOrangeCat Yeah it was a made up term but it was based on a real advantage the Genesis had, which is that it had a faster CPU than the SNES and that's why slowdown was much less of an issue, but that had less to do with how advanced the Genesis was and more to do with the SNES's limitations, even the TurboGrafx-16 had a faster CPU than the SNES.

5:08 A cameo by the Whip Rush fighter! Lotus reminds me of Top Gear. Rolling Thunder 3 didn't have 2 player co-op like Rolling Thunder 2 for some reason. And let's face it, Golden Axe 2 was a pretty good sequel, but the game that stands out the most for me in that series is Golden Axe 3. The level and depth of gameplay reached a level never before seen in the series and the soundtrack was easily the best of the series. In fact the soundtrack stands out as among some of Sega's best.
@NotABot55
@NotABot55 4 жыл бұрын
The Lotus and Top Gear series both were developed by Gremlin Interactive. Also, there was only one playable character in _Rolling Thunder 3,_ so a two player co-op wouldn't make sense (why there wasn't a two player alternating mode, who knows?) The fact that they were able to fit the second GA into half a megabyte (blame the marketers for insisting on selling games on *megabit* size) is quite the achievement. The third entry was all right, but this was about the time Sega was running out of ideas for the series (that one fighting game, and then the PS2 rendition, and that was the end.)

The original Golden Axe was my favorite game on the Genesis. It was the one game where I truly believed the graphics were exactly like the Arcade. I must have played and beat Golden Ax 300 times in the course of 6 months. And never got tired of it. In my defense. I was 15 and tired of the same old 2D side scrolling garbage of the NES. And Golden Ax blew anything NES out of the water. Super Monaco ... that racing game was fantastic. I remember that last race. Seeing the first place car in the distance. Never being able to catch up. And that day I finally beat him. I damn near cried of joy (not literally). Again. The graphics were amazing to me at the time. And my memory 30 years ago. I could swear the graphics were much smoother.
