Me too. It only helped that I had already gotten well into the new habit of purchasing downloadable games through Nintendo's Wii Shop Channel when I had decided to buy an Xbox 360 and start diving into their own online services. One of the great things I definitely loved out of it that the Wii didn't have was being able to buy a ton of different clothing and props to customize your avatar with.

After all there should always be *someone* who cares about the complete preservation of older media, and if we can't always count on our original distributors of said media to want to do it then we know we can always count on ourselves, the fan community.

Vanquish AND Binary Domain in ONE list? Now THAT's a rare sight! I own them both on PS3 and ever since thought they really didn't get the attention they would have deserved back then, but both pretty much released during the height of the "Battlefield VS. CoD" war and a lot of gamers just didn't realize other shooters even exist at all. Well, nice to see that you see them mentioned more and more often now, almost 12 years later.

Virtua Fighter 5 is incredible and still holds up very well. Those animations are still gorgeous to this day. I miss VF and OutRun so much.

I'm buying a modified 360 from a seller very soon, has over 125 games that I hand-picked myself. A personal favorite of mine has always been Raiden Fighters Aces, as I'm a huge shoot em' up fan. I also think Microsoft is making a mistake closing down the 360 store, as they certainly did a better job of offering games from every system. Which is more than I can say that Sony has done, which is nothing. And thanks X, for giving attention to a system that deserves a lot more credit. Much like the Sega Saturn, may these systems never die

I either forgot or never knew Guardian Heroes got a 360 remake! Did play the GBA version, though. Condemned is one of my top games from that gen. Played it all with melee-only. Awesome!

Unfortunately, Sega didn't know how to market Anarchy Reigns and treated it very poorly. They suddenly delayed it everywhere but Japan from July 2012 to January 2013, with the only upside being a budget $30 price point. It felt like an indication they didn't expect it to sell on its own merits and weren't going to try any harder. I still remember a Sega rep apparently called it "Call of Duty with a chainsaw". Sega USA really had no clue what they were doing in that era.

Sega All Stars Racing was ok, but Transformed really shines as the best "cart" racer. It is truly an amazing game and I've been playing it all these years thanks to the excellent PC release. I can't play the alien title, it's just too scary for me lol.

My favorite 2D console is the Genesis and 3D is the 360. Spent a lot of time the past year on the 360 net sifting through and picking up what I’d missed. I have one of my Elites hooked up to a 27in CRT via component and those arcade games run look and smooth!

Although I had PS3, I played almost all of the games that were on this list. I'm disappointed that some games are now unavailable because of licensing issues, but I hope something can be worked out to get games like Afterburner Climax available on modern systems. I also hope that a Guardian Heroes port is imminent since the XBLA store recently closed, but given how long it took Radiant Silvergun's port to be announced and released, we might be waiting for a while, if it ever does get re-released.

Sega during the Xbox 360/PS3 lifespan was amazing with there remasters and ports. I remember seeing Sonjc Adventure 1 and 2 coming to the marketplace and smiled so big because i couldnt believe sega was porting all these great games.

The ultimate megdrive collection was one of the first ps3 games i really got into when i first got the system, i adore that title. Such an incredible variety and quality for its time. Me and my little sister didnt know the first thing about streets of rage but we still had fun messaging around in the second game together

I've mentioned this once before, but it was the release of Sonic Generations for Xbox 360 that finally got me to want to own another home console outside of what was my usual bias at the time for Nintendo, adding to that the great amount of Sega support that the Xbox 360 ended up getting. I did indeed buy NiGHTS into Dreams, Sonic CD, the Adventure titles, Sonic the Fighters, and Sonic 4: Episode II off of Xbox Live Arcade right when those titles were released along with owning my physical copy of Generations, and those downloaded titles are still kept stored onto my Xbox 360 to this day. Never have upgraded to the Xbox One though, with my last current home console having been back to Nintendo again with the Switch.

@@Vulpas Ever since we got the HD version of NiGHTS into Dreams I had been hoping to see it get re-released on Switch (and maybe even the Wii sequel Journey of Dreams), but either Sega or Nintendo just haven't been thinking of doing it. A shame really, cause NiGHTS has always been my favorite Sega franchise outside of Sonic and it should be deserving better than to be slept on so much (which is kind of ironic since it's about flying around in a dream world).

Binary Domain was probably forgotten because in the 7th generation, you couldn't throw a rock with it hitting a cover-based shooter. I'm not knocking the game, never played it, but it was the style at the time to release a gritty military cover based shooter, so it was hard to stand out amongst all the other grey and brown military cover based shooters.

And that really is a shame that Binary Domain couldn't really stand out visually from all the rest because they actually try to be more than just a meathead shooter. Like even if you're fighting robots gone amok you also have a robot ally... who speaks with an outrageously french accent. You can tell it was the Yakuza guys writing the game.

I had a pretty good amount of Xbox 360 before the store went away, but leading up to that had me panic buying stuff to assure DLC before its gone. It had me finding so many great games on the system that had passed me by, or I hadn't found the time to play yet. Granted I could repeat that sentiment for any console, but I still have alot of fondness for the Xbox 360!

Love my 360. Living in Asia, it was the only Xbox that really did well here. And the only one with a bunch of amazing Japanese exclusives, especially in the Shmups genre. If you're a fan of Shmups, you needed a Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. But for the 7th Gen, the 360 was the console to own for this overlooked genre.

As for the name of "Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing", I think it was intended as a continuation of the Sega All-Stars series that began on PlayStation 2. They probably added the Sonic branding for extra appeal.

The seventh gen consoles are able to make vintage games look brand new by giving them a high res treatment and at the last stage of their life are also able to push out games that are on par with 8th gen consoles. They sit in a very sweet spot on both ends.

Looking back, I was a little hard on the 7th generation. A lot of my favorite mid-sized studios were dying or being bought up, and everything felt like some variation of a shooter. Was not particularly happy with a lot of games abandoning local multiplayer support either. On top of that, Japanese game dev took a nosedive (**cough** Konami **cough**). With that said, this list proves there is still much to love, especially in the first half of that generation. I really should get around to playing Vanquish.

I've been recommending Binary Domain since I rented it and later purchased it in 2012. Such a good sci-fi shooter with a provocative story. A 2024/25 remaster would possibly outdo its original run and it would be better than the absurd $25-30 dollars resellers are asking for online.

It's crazy to think that even though Alien: Isolation released in 2014, this game is available on Xbox 360 & PS3 lol. It shows the incredible longevity of both consoles before retiring. Also that game rules! Clearly one of the best survival horror games ever made imo. It's crazy that it's been 10 years and we didn't get a real sequel yet (Alien: Blackout don't count lol).

OMG I agree with you....Condemned was such a great game and took me by surprise. I remember the scene with the mannequins when one of them started moving....they did not try to make it a jump scare with a loud noise....it just started moving towards me....that was so much more effective...

apart from the switch and the next nintendo console, i don't care about modern consoles for the first time. nintendo makes amazing games, but other then that games have become endless boring side quests, loot box, and games focus on trying to sell you stuff instead of "fun". games are turning into a casino to milk every penny from you instead of making a great adventure. Can't beat this section? then BUY IT (or buy this weapon upgrade)! that's ok because we have thousands of games to play until that so i'll go back to games from 1976-2020. i mean i'm playing GoldenEye 64 on the N64 for the first time on the single player mission and it's truly fun and an amazing original experience. There is really nothing else like this or has been for at least 20 years (last similar game that i can think of is Resident Evil 4). When people say old games are "dated" i cringe. is an old hammer dated? it's just different. When i started GoldenEye, it took an hour or so to get familiar to the control scheme and style and now i'm completely hooked and it's one of the best games i've ever played in terms of pure fun, enjoyment. anyway that's my rant. After i beat this games i'm jumping to the Xbox OG with Elder Scrolls Morrowind. apparently that's a great game. can't wait

I feel the same I briefly had a PS4 when I decided to get back into modern gaming and I realised I didn’t care about more than gaming and I just felt bored playing God of war which felt just alien to me. I didn’t care for the story or anything and it made me realise That what I was looking for was on the Nintendo Switch so I sold my PS4 or rather traded it and used some of that to buy some switch games Mario Odyssey and legend of Zelda breath of the wild and eventually got my switch shortly after haven’t looked back. I’ve also been paying a lot of NES games on NSO which makes you realise just how much fun those times were even with the technological limitations.

Whole heartily agree with your ending statements in this video. There just isn't variety anymore, and more of an emphasis on putting out content shareholders will think will bring them the most cash over a long period of time. AAA publishers just don't make games for us anymore; they make them for shareholders. On a positive note the indie scene is where it's at, though. The majority of my catalog of games that I play I've recently purchased is on PC, and they're all indie. Part of me is angry by this, but at the same time, it's pretty cool to see all these retro inspired titles make a comeback from passionate small teams. Unless a major shift happens with the direction of AAA publishers I won't be purchasing the next generation of consoles. I'm not their target audience anymore, but you know what? That's ok. Plenty to keep me busy on PC and a backlog of games from decades past.

I totally get what you’re saying at the end but you can’t tell me that if DLC and “updated missions, maps, and skins” magically appeared for Genesis or Dreamcast games today you wouldn’t still be playing those and eating it up. I know I would lol! While I totally agree that modern games lack the charm of retro games, DLC in and of itself isn’t a bad thing. DLC is just that: downloadable content. It’s when companies use it to nickel and dime customers that it becomes a problem.

There's a difference between offering some DLC to extend a game and developing a Live Service game with the intent of pushing that game for years on end. Bungie hasn't made a real game in a decade because of garbage like Destiny.

No. No way! 😄 Shredder’s Revenge, for example, is DLC that I think was handled very well. It should contribute to the game to push it forward, not try to squeeze every penny out of the customer. But I know, DLC has a negative connotation by the community. And when a studio shuts down the servers the DLC is gone and no one in the future will have access to that. My point was just that when it’s handled well by the right studio it can benefit the experience.

@@meekstud Good dlc use to exist, I remember the first Borderlands did one of the first season passes for the 4 dlc campaigns and it was priced well and gave you good content. Fast forward to 15 years later and we get half the content for double the price lol. If we're lucky haha

Rockstar one of the worst defenders if not the worst offenders at this trend GTA5 was released round about 2011 2012 and all they were doing for the last decade or so was just milking customers for all their work and focused on the online element.

I, too lost interest in modern gaming after this era, but damn if it didn't give us some of the best franchises ever. BioShock, the new Fallout games, Dead Space, the Guitar Hero games. Now I almost exclusively focus on indie titles or just play retro stuff.

I take this of era of gaming for granted. There was so many great releases and the online stores were simply amazing. Its a shame things got delisted and future stores simply became more limited. In hindsight, I wish I had friends who were into these games so I could have played online.

Th greatest gaming experience in my life was on the Xbox360. It's where I discovered action RPGs like Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, Red Dead Redemption and of course Mass Effect. Omg The best time I ever had on any gaming console. Better than Ps4 Ps5. Incredible when I first play Fallout 3, my goodness and then Skyrim, I was in heaven.

I agree, the Xbox 360 was the last console that really awed me in regards to transitioning from one generation to the next. I also agree that we may be getting old, but I definitely enjoyed those days of receiving a game in its entirety as opposed to developers milking games with all this DLC shit. Sega definitely killed it with its presence on the 360.

One of the best things I like about earlier Xbox systems is their ability to download entire games into the hard drive to play. It is so convenient.

PlayStation 3 store still has Nights into Dreams, Daytona USA, Sonic CD and Adventures 1 and 2...also on PlayStation 3 any USB controller works including Retrobit's officially licensed Sega controllers...playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection with the Retrobit wireless Saturn controller is an epic experience!

i definitely hope that is a war that we can win, and i'd say the same could be done for hosting the marketplaces for older consoles, so that games that are only available at said markets can still be purchased and played.

I still play most of these on my Series X. Some, like Panzer Dragoon Orta, have amazing 4K 60 enhancements from their Xbox One backwards compatibility and most get a nice bonus from Auto HDR / Dolby Vision. And that game has the original Panzer Dragoon as an unlockable bonus game, which gets the same enhancement by default. Really wish more Saturn games had gotten the Guardian Heroes + Radiant Silvergun treatment. Particularly Silhouette Mirage as another Treasure title. The reverse engineering on those games is godtier.
