Reservation is essentially a concept of Hinduism. Hinduism reserved all the privileges of life for the Brahmins (probably because it was written by Brahmins) and removed all the privileges of the Shudras, who were actually the creamy layer of our society in the ancient days. The Shudras were the skilled labour force of India. By making the untouchables and slaves and denying them, education Hinduism destroyed this creamy layer of India. Our ancestors who wrote the puranas created a meaningless caste system and maintained it using draconian religious norms and laws. Meritocracy has no value in a religion that created and still maintains the most cruel form of discrimination. Regarding statistics, please check whether the Hindu religion took into account the vast number of people who were destroyed by the Hindu religion because of its brutal treatment of Shudras.

No one discriminates on caste in IITs. I was in one and I can say that. Students can discriminate based on marks though. And people with reservations have low marks in general. It is correlation and not causation. Maybe the old faculty might discriminate that too only 1 or 2. No student does it. Today's generation wants to go beyond all this What is needed is teaching kids to be sensitive with people who get low marks and also to inculcate confidence in people who have entered with lower marks

Sadly this is falling on deaf ears. The people who advocate for reservations are of two types : 1. The people who are so brain washed by the reservation propaganda which says it is justice to minorities 2. The actual creamy layer within each category who are solely enjoying the benefits of reservation. Justice, if any, should not be distributive but to the individual. It should not be of compensation on the basis of the hardships that ancestors of a specific group of communities faces, but it should be for providing resources to individuals of each and every backward community. Reservation mechanism just destroys the democratic nature of India and also promotes communal thinking among newer generations

To be completely democratic, there must be a true representation of all communities (Religions and Castes) in every organisational section of the society. Unfortunately, this is not so in the India of today. 40-50% of the judges in the supreme court of India are from the Brahmin community. More than 50% of the personnel in all financial organisations (RBI, SEBI, NSE, Finance ministry) are all Brahmins. And Brahmins form only 4% of the population! This disparity is because of the caste system of Hinduism, which allowed only Brahmin men (2%) to educate. The Sudra community were allowed any form of education only after Independence. These Sudras treated as untouchable slaves will take several generations to come up to standard and become functional representatives in various organisational sections of society. Meritocracy has no value in a society where there is no equality. Sadly, even today, in many villages of India, caste discrimination is practised actively!

Are there numerous cases where justice was served differently by these so called Brahmins to backward communities? If one is there to represent one's own community then that's what is called nepotism or favouritism. The resource distribution is always a factor. Pre independence, access of resource was restricted thoroughly to people from backward classes. No one could question that. Today's situation is different. I don't deny caste discrimination at all, but there is no link between ethnicity and intelligence. It's just that we diversify across skills and resources. Individuals who excel at utilising this resource gets to the top. It will be the same across any category, may it forward or backward. So called Brahmins doesn't have any additional brain cells which facilitate this percentage. It's like saying people from Karnataka are born as engineers. No one is born in a particular way like a machine. And reservation is never going to solve this so called disparity because the society will always diversify. If we intrude into this diversification , we kill off advancement. And reservation will only favour specific castes from each category to always excel. As they will be the ones who will have resources generations after generations. The communities which falls under the same category, but are devoid of resources will always stay at the bottom. Is this justice? Isn't these communities that we should really target and provide them with necessary resources? Sadly, with the existing formulas for reservation, I am of an opinion that it is not possible. What reservation system does is it takes the useless and harmful notion of caste, solidified it in the form of percentages and ancestor sufferings, and institutionalise it. To attack a notion is easier. We attack it like how we attack sexism, sexual minority rights, slavery, racism and all those to reduce it to a significantly low level. But once an idea is institutionalised, then it is really hard. That's why we are observing the stretching of reservation to more and more communities. By this trend, we are probably going to witness a state where reservation is for all communities.
