The Indian cricket team and IITs have traditionally been dominated by one particular community. Two hypotheses here- Either they have the rare genes that make them strong physically and brainy at the same time or there is favouritism and bias in selection process and more opportunities given to them.

Unless the "particular" community is GMO (Genetically modified) to be superior, the answer is, they are not. There are countless individuals who made it big despite coming from a backward and downtrodden community. Sir APJ Abdul kalam is a classical example. So, the obvious answer is "favoritism". And the nonexistential virtual aura of superiority that they carry is handed down to them by their racist ancestors.

Labelling "The Wire" as an "Independent" media outlet must have been said in jest ???!!!... It is widely reputed as a Psuedo-Leftist mouthpiece, filled with self proclaimed "intellectuals"from the ruling party of the State to which this interviewee faculty from IIT Madras belongs 🚩... Protest is second nature to people of that State.. The real economy is in a shambles... Popular narrative in that State is that anyone who is not a communist cadre is a "Fascist" ... This narrative help keeps the economy of the state alive through remittances from the Gulf countries, never mind if those countries are the very opposite of what the left-liberals claim to and protest for !!!! ... In one word, the ideology of media outlets like "The Wire" is Hypocrisy !!! Specifically in this instance, if 'The Wire' was truly an independent media outlet it would have also sought and presented the other side of the issue. But typically its coverage is always one sided. Secondly, as far as this particular former Faculty member from IIT Madras is concerned, he is apparently an instinctively rebellious character, in the mould of a communist cadre or naxalite... If The Wire was really an independent media outlet it would have done its homework and probed why he also quit Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata... Whatever other allegations he may make against ISI Kolkata it surely cannot be that the community against who he alleges discrimination in IIT Madras (Tamil Brahmins) are in a majority in ISI Kolkata too !!!!

Equal opportunity seems like a distant dream. The nation is losing its talented resources for the right professions here, and permanently losing them in international job space.. Fairness of such investigations in government organizations usually starts with entrusting the case to the accused himself. I know couple of cases in my working life. This is a dirty attitude, where victims are pressured to negotiate so things go under the carpet, before it reach media, political agenda, that initiate second phase of victim harassment. Thanks from the core of my heart to Vipin who has taken the issue of caste discrimination of IIT madras to Backward Commission inspite of his being a member of Backward communities, but inclusive in so called General Category. His view encouraged by Dr Ambedkar's famous advice 'Educate, organise and agitate" is ' educate, organise and capture ' is very encouraging But without political power specially OBCs/SCs/STs representatives if not organised and collectively capture power , who will do this almost impossible jobs?

I am not denying that their is no caste based discrimination. We must all strive to end it. But playing victim card to end meritocracy will be doom for India. We must not be playing at the hands of breaking India forces who want a captive market without giving us any voice at international community. If there is discrimination in IIT we must ensure such people must go and system be made more transparent and not less meritocratic.

To everyone still against the reservation system, just give this a thought. Let's say that there are two families The first family has had access to good education, nutritious food, and other advantages for a century or two, while the second family has experienced disadvantage and lack of opportunities during that time, there will likely be a significant disparity between the two families in terms of education, skills, and overall well-being. The first family's advantage in education and sports would likely have provided them with opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and social connections. They may have acquired knowledge, expertise, and qualifications that could potentially give them an advantage in various areas, such as securing better jobs or pursuing higher education. Additionally, if the first family had access to better nutrition and healthcare, they might have enjoyed better physical health, which can positively impact overall well-being and performance. On the other hand, the second family, despite receiving government support, would still be starting from a disadvantaged position due to their lack of previous opportunities. While government support can be instrumental in leveling the playing field to some extent, it may take time for the second family to bridge the gap in education and skills that the first family has enjoyed for a century.
