I'll never get over how Isayama made this girl go from a character without a name who occasionally said a few lines to one of my favorites in only a few episodes. That's talent right there. This entire season but especially this episode cemented Ymir as one of my favorite characters of the series. The OST, the beauty of her waking up and finding herself free and deciding to try to finally live for herself instead of for other people and sticking to a set path, it's all so amazing. But even when she tries to be selfish, we see instances of her encouraging Sasha to be who she is, regardless of how others see her, distracting Connie from thinking about his family, saving Daz, saving everyone in the tower, and even trying to save all those people in her flashback. No matter how much she tries to make herself seem selfish, she always helps other people and puts them before herself. And that's honestly so beautiful.

They never really say anymore about this, so not really a spoiler...just clarifying. Ymir does NOT actually have royal blood. She was a random orphan that fit the look they had in mind. They put her on the throne, gave her the name, and told people she was royal. She claimed it to be true later on to try to keep them out of trouble with the soldiers there. That's why you can see Notebooks Titan Guy shaking his head. She keeps the name Ymir because she either doesn't know/remember her original name or didn't have one. Great vid, guys!!

Guys, your theories are amazing. Just had to point out, some reactors have gone this route before and treated the show just like a riddle to be solved. Mystery is one big part of the show, but it's more than that. We have amazing character moments, suspense and levity, acts of bravery and heroism, cowardice and betrayal. Human moments. Ymir and Historia is more than puzzle pieces, they're characters whose had tragic pasts. We kinda glossed over that and went straight to theory crafting, lol. Anyway, I think it's safe to say at this point, but yes, Ymir is in love with Historia. That's her primary motivation. Please talk more about the characters in the future... just a feedback. That being said, still loved the theories!

I guess Ymir doesn't remember her real name. She was still so young when she was taken and told "You are now Ymir" after all. Then she kept living as "Ymir" for years and then was turned into a titan, which surely didn't do her long-term memory too many favours either. And Historia doesn't know Ymir's secret beyond Ymir saying "We have gone through something similar". Remember they promised that once "Christa" told Ymir her real name, Ymir would in turn tell her her secret. But when Historia told Ymir her real name, Ymir was barely conscious, so they didn't yet have a chance to share backstories. The only secret Historia knows is that Ymir is a titan shifter.

For sure. Only after rewatching it recently after going through a lot in life did I realize how shit and tragically heroic Ymir's life was. Forced into being a sacrificial lamb, she willingly yet reluctantly took upon the mantle of a false saviour to save others instead of herself. And she was rewarded with an absolute tormenting nightmare for decades. It's completely understandable how going through that entire ordeal made her resolve to live life for herself, and no longer be a sacrifice.

Some tips that i think will improve the viewing experience for you guys and for us as well: 1) Always read the mid-episode screen. Sometimes it's nothing, but other times it's really important (like this episode, i'm sure you missed it). 2) It's ok to pause to take notes. You might miss an important piece of dialogue or a quick scene while you're writing. 3) It's also ok to go back to view some scenes again after the episode is over. We won't consider it cheating :) Especially for an episode like this I have a question also, is Patreon blocked in some countries? I couldn't access your patreon page from Egypt..
