Mikasa somehow manages to traverse all the way back to Shinganshina with Eren’s head. Sadly, it was probably Isayama that was influenced by western media which focus way more on the fan-servicey and heroic aspects of their movies, and not caring about plot. I doubt anyone, be it editors or Kodansha themselves would dare to influence a writer who had been writing an 11 year old story that so many people enjoyed all over the world, and let it end differently than he himself wanted it to end.
@ArcHeus083 жыл бұрын
No it makes sense actually that this was an executive decision. The original ending, which could have been full genocide, probably felt too extreme for the editors since AOT is now consumed by millions of viewers including children. They don’t really want angry backlash from parents saying their kids became chad erens and choosing violence to solve their problems right.
@ThisHandleSystemCanGetNicked3 жыл бұрын
There is actually every possibility that this was meddled with. Manga sales have apparently been down for a while and they probably wanted a cookie cutter ending that tried to please everybody. It just seems so out of tune with Isayama's writing. They clearly wanted a more positive ending which just seems too unrealistic for the plot and setting. Too many plot holes, nothing really solved except no titans.

yeah what you're not feeling is closure. a feeling that should come to all reader if an ending did everything right and wrap up the story in a nice bundle. an ending is supposed to answers important questions that was dropped throughout the narrative, conclude character development, and tie up loose ends. when done correctly all readers will feel content even if their personal headcanon didn't happen. this ending threw away character development, handwaved important question like why ymir persist so long with just "love", and ultimately made us felt nothing was accomplished. yeah eren stalled the world from taking their revenge, but because this story has set a mature and real world tone, we can easily see that the world is not going to let go of their hatred and hate paradis even more now. the rumbling was all for nothing, just meaningless bloodshed.

Was nothing destroyed on paradise because of eren? Where did all these soldiers come from? Are there more people on paradise than the rest of the world? 20% are not enough to beat a island? Wasn't there a plane over London? There was no bomb left to fight paradise? Really? Where did all these rifles come from? Why are they able to go to war? Why are they fighting? Why did Armin and friends just come back after 3 years? Where did they come from? Why are they afraid to go home? How could anyone come back to human being after titanizing? Even connys mum? Why not all the colossal titans? What about ymir? How could she love King Fritz? Why didn't we see any of it? Why didn't she heal when she loved him? What had Mikasa to do with this? Why should she kill eren? What was the choice? To kill someone who you love? Why? Just why was this the solution for everything? Why couldn't eren survive and go anyplace secretly with Mikasa after rumbling? Armin lied so it doesn't make a difference! Omg..., hard to believe that this is the end.

All the shit he did with Grisha was necessary because that WAS the past that already was set . That was timeloop that he had to follow , to make the things go the way they go . And that's what makes this ending worse , because If he has to follow a fixed path that cannot be change what's the point of all that freedom bullshit he was saying . This whole concept of PATHS is flawed , this has no limits you can do whatever you want with this , time travel , Titan transformation , memory manipulation, regeneration , Titan creation ,teleportation blah blah blah. There is no explation to how is this happening and what created it. Why the hell is YMIR there ? Why the hell there are only 9 titans? Why the hell are the eldians connected to it , literally why 😂?, So , I also know this ending is bullshit , I am just stating facts that he Didn't kill his mom . Nice review. Ymir is ruined and i think King Fritz is just Isayama self insert, due to the overuse of "girl fall for abuser" trope in AOT. Someone needs to check on his wife to make sure she is not chained up like a slave in some random basement

People talking about it being the best ending for characters, yet not the story. Freedom what always needed, the freedom from war, the freedom from hate, the freedom to have your own choices, and Eren took all that away. Him killing 100% of the world, destroying titan powers but killing the alliance and those who he beloved and tried to protect so much, that would be better, as he get to live the last of his days, suffering from his choic of destroying the world and so his friends. I could care less about the ships, or if Eren was the father, Historia's child could've been Ymir finally being in a world where she can finally live, be free.

Sadly I don't share the same opinion. The story was indeed extremely well written with great twists and masterful execution of mysteries, but having it all lead to nothing kind of ruined it for me. Characters like Floch, Erwin and Hange would be the only reason that I would bother re-reading the manga for, being that their characters weren't ruined due to either a rushed story or the 360 flipping of their personality at the last moment. Having the world end just like it started: with humanity divided in 2 teams, still not having achieved freedom and expecting us, the readers, to like that ending just because fan favourite characters survived is kind of sad to see. But I'm glad that you get to enjoy the story despite the ending, in contrast to a large chunk of the community for which the manga as a whole is ruined now.

We have witnessed the character assassination of eren historia and Ymir. Turns out Ymir loved the king who raped her and treated her as a slave. Turns out Ymir was introduced for nothing. Zeke died for nothing. Historia asked her platonic best friend to have a child then proceeds to fuck a faceless man. Turns out historia lied about her date of conception for nothing. Turns out eren killed his mum for nothing killed ramzi for nothing. Eren defended historia countless times for nothing. The Ymir curse disappeared out of nowhere the unkiliable worm died of screen. All of sudden eren now loves mikisa which was never shown once the entire series , but now he loves her and made her go through hell for nothing. Floch and the jaegerists died for nothing. Historia got sidelined to a whore. Eren is a shell of a man and the cycle of hate dissapered . Reiner Annie get to wal away after killing there own ppl. Turns out armins peace plan would have worked all of a sudden so eren is just a physcotic maninac. The series is ruined eren is ruined. So now eren left paridise in a worse state the cycle of hate is worse the war will continue and now they have no titans to protect them . Shoutout to the unkiliable worm teleporting to a new world along with founder Ymir who didn’t acc seek freedom she decided to make Titans this whole time because she was waiting for necrophilia

tbh if Eren hadn't sacrificed his mom and gained the resolve to kill titans him and his friends would have likely died way earlier. He also needed Bertolt in order to realize his ultimate plan. It's a cold-blooded decision, but I can understand why he did it. He saw many potential futures and everything needed to play out a certain way to achieve this one result, there wasn't any other way.

I was OK with Eren losing and only finishing off 80% because he allowed his friends that freedom. But if he was to lose? I wanted him to lose honestly. He gave it is all, but fell short because those who opposed him had strong wills too. What I hated was hearing that he did it virtually in a whim. He went with the flow and felt like it and kinda forgot why he felt he needed to do such a drastic thing. Wow. We thought we were following an adult making an adult decision--not a damn child.
@supereldinho3 жыл бұрын
The problem with AOT's ending can best be explained like this: A logically sad or depressing ending is much easier to swallow than a falsely optimistic one. Let's compare: In God of War 3, Kratos destroys the world in his quest for vengeance, then he kills himself, even proclaiming "My vengeance ends now". The ending is utterly bleak and nihilistic, but at least it made sense and felt like a logical conclusion to everything leading up to it. The story wasn't even nihilistic for the sake of it -- it was a story where everyone was a terrible person making terrible decisions, which led to the world becoming a hellhole. In The Last of Us 2, Ellie has killed her way through an entire town just to have her revenge but then she backs out, right as she's about to kill the one person that made her life a living hell...and absolutely nothing good comes of it. She killed hundreds of people for nothing, she's lost everything in her quest for vengeance and she accomplished absolutely nothing by giving up on her revenge. The entire story was a complete waste of time because the writers cared more about delivering a ham-fisted moral than writing a coherent plot with a logical conclusion. An unflinchingly nihilistic story, inhabited by disgusting unlikable characters, undone by a falsely optimistic ending. AOT's ending falls into the latter category.

Exactly. It seems Isayama is forgetting his own writing, which is why he copied the ending of classic superhero movies from the west, to seemingly bring a "satisfying ending", seeing as how positively people react to the ending of those movies.

When the leaks were out I thought it's like a prank coz even a child can write a better ending. But to my surprise it was true. This is utter waste ending. In one chapter ,the complete series gone from 10 to 4. I am just shocked how someone can justify this ending. If you are invested in this and you are deep enough, you can never be happy with this ending. Aot did so bad to all female characters (important ones). The message was treat the woman like garbage and she will fall madly in love with you Ps - I wanted eren to be with Mikasa. I wanted eren to be true to his goals. I didn't want any Marleyans to have a happy ending,they didn't deserve. I didn't mind if Levi died coz I would prefer him to dying heroic rather than being crippled and being baby sitted by Marleyans. I wish if sasha and hange would have been alive. I know it is more to ask but I wish historia and ymir relationship had some exposure

Anyone who actually liked the ending, had to of made a conscious effort to ignore all the plot holes and the major contradictions this chapter makes. You can't possibly see Eren manipulating their memories (even though he said he wouldn't and Mikasa's an ackerman so what's up with that) and think "wow what a masterpiece!" Never mind that Eren 'Freedom' Yeager has called Mikasa 'Controlling' Ackerman a bitch in the manga and did not have a single scene where they're lovey dovey. But now it's "Ahh~ They're soulmates~". What was Isayama even thinking? SMH.

I think Ymir's "love" for Fritz isn't exactly how everyone else seems to think it is. It doesn't make any sense for Ymir to love Fritz to us, because we didn't live the life that Ymir did. Ymir was a young child and a slave, her village was taken over Fritz's Tribe. Needless to say she hadn't been living the best life and didn't develop as a well adjusted person. We don't know when her village was taken over, but she was most likely very young, and would therefore spend most of her formative years as Fritz's slaves. Fritz was probably the first person to give Ymir a single amount of praise in a long time, maybe in all she could remember. We can obviously see that praise as a display of how evil he is, only thinking of Ymir as valuable as a tool, but would Ymir see that as a bad thing the same way we would? Ymir didn't exactly "love" Fritz, she loved the feeling of being useful that he gave her, even if he only saw her as a tool. At least thats how I interpreted it
